Project description:This article presents a comprehensive dataset extracted from published annual, sustainability and integrated reports, focusing on environmental (GRI300) and social (GRI400) disclosures, for the top 100 Malaysian public listed companies (based on Market Capitalization as of 31 December 2016). The dataset covers three years (2018 to 2020) with 300 firm-year observations. Environmental and Social disclosure scores were calculated using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework and derived from the content analysis of the companies' reports accessed from respective corporate or Bursa Malaysia's websites. A binary scoring method (one for disclosure or zero, otherwise for each environmental and social disclosure item) was employed. This scoring process underwent three stages of rigorous manual verification protocol: initial check and scoring by research assistants, review by the research team, and a final review by an independent external accounting firm for validation. This dataset is valuable for academics, practitioners, and policymakers to evaluate corporate alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #12, encouraging Responsible Consumption and Production, and shape strategic policies to meet Bursa compliance for enhanced corporate sustainability. It further aids in investigating associations between governance factors and other firm characteristics with environmental and social disclosures.

Project description:BackgroundContinuous quality improvement processes in health care were developed for use at health facility level, and that is where they have been used the most, often addressing defined care processes. However, in different settings different factors have been important to support institutionalization. This study explores how continuous quality improvement processes were institutionalized at the district level and at the health facility level in Uganda.MethodsThis qualitative study was carried out in seven districts in Uganda. Semi-structured interviews with key informants from the district health management teams and document review were conducted. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data.ResultsAll districts that participated in the study formed Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams both at the district level and at the health facilities. The district CQI teams comprised of members from different departments within the district health office. District level CQI teams were mandated to take the lead in addressing management gaps and follow up CQI activities at the health facility level. Acceptability of quality improvement processes by the district leadership was identified across districts as supporting the successful implementation of CQI. However, high turnover of staff at health facility level was also reported as a detrimental to the successful implementation of quality improvement processes. Also the district health management teams did not engage much in addressing their own roles using continuous quality improvement.ConclusionThe leadership and management provided by the district health management team was an important factor for the use of Continuous Quality Improvement principles within the district. The key roles of the district health team revolved around the institutionalisation of CQI at different levels of the health system, monitoring results of continuous quality improvement implementation, mobilising resources and health care delivery hence promoting the culture of quality, direct implementation of CQI, and creating an enabling environment for the lower-level health facilities to engage in CQI. High turnover of staff at health facility level was also reported as one of the challenges to the successful implementation of continuous quality improvement. The DHT did not engage much in addressing gaps in their own roles using continuous quality improvement.

Project description:In tandem with the evolution of the "green economy and finance" paradigm, a number of sustainability assessment metrics tailored to businesses has been meticulously researched and refined. Among the established benchmarks, the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) index has emerged prominently. With the strategic guidance of governments across diverse nations, this index has progressively assumed a central role as a guiding compass for enterprises with aspirations of sustainable development and the pursuit of long-term investment strategies coveted by discerning investors. The fundamental objective underpinning the dataset presented in this paper is to appraise the technical efficiency exhibited by listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), encompassed within the purview of the Vietnam Sustainability Index (VNSI). The assessment of information disclosure practices by these corporate entities adheres rigorously to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards of 2020. Complementing this are assorted financial metrics gleaned from financial and annual reports, underpinning an analytical framework predicated on Network Data Envelopment Analysis (NDEA), affording a ranking of corporate efficiency. Project description:We report previously undocumented evidence of genetic discrimination by Australian insurance companies, obtained through direct consumer reports. We surveyed 174 consumers with cancer-predisposing variants, recruited by cancer organisations Lynch Syndrome Australia and Pink Hope. Questions related to experiences accessing risk-rated insurance after genetic testing. Results indicate that both legal (permitted under current regulation) and illegal discrimination is occurring. Although some respondents had not applied for risk-rated insurance, or had insurance in place before genetic testing (n = 100), those seeking new policies (n = 74) commonly experienced difficulties obtaining insurance (86%, 64/74). Of those experiencing difficulties, 50% (32/64) had no prior history or symptoms of cancer, and had undertaken risk reduction through surveillance and/or preventative surgery. Seventy-seven percent (49/64) reported difficulties related to life insurance. Follow-up telephone interviews with four respondents further described cases of apparent illegal breaches. All reports of discrimination identified were, to our knowledge, previously unreported in the literature. The number of cases suggests a systemic problem with the Australian life insurance industry. We support calls for government oversight of the inherently conflicted model of industry self-regulation in Australia, and an immediate ban on the use of genetic test results in insurance underwriting.

Project description:To report rates of and reasons for operation cancellation, and to prioritize areas of improvement.Retrospective data were extracted from the monthly reports of cancelled listed operations. Data on 14 theatres were collected by the office of quality assurance at Jordan University Hospital from August 2012 to April 2016. Rates and reasons for operation cancellation were investigated. A Pareto chart was constructed to identify the reasons of highest priority.During the period of study, 6,431 cases (9.31%) were cancelled out of 69,066 listed cases. Patient no-shows accounted for 62.52% of cancellations. A Pareto analysis showed that around 80% of the known reasons for cancellation after admission were due to a lack of surgical theatre time (30%), incomplete preoperative assessment (21%), upper respiratory tract infection (19%), and high blood pressure (13%).This study identified the most common reasons for operation cancellation at a teaching hospital. Potential avoidable root causes and recommended interventions were suggested accordingly. Future research, available resources, hospital policies, and strategic measures directed to tackle these reasons should take priority.

Project description:ObjectiveContinuous quality improvement (CQI) methods are foundational approaches to improving healthcare delivery. Publications using the term CQI, however, are methodologically heterogeneous, and labels other than CQI are used to signify relevant approaches. Standards for identifying the use of CQI based on its key methodological features could enable more effective learning across quality improvement (QI) efforts. The objective was to identify essential methodological features for recognizing CQI.DesignPrevious work with a 12-member international expert panel identified reliably abstracted CQI methodological features. We tested which features met rigorous a priori standards as essential features of CQI using a three-phase online modified-Delphi process.SettingPrimarily United States and Canada.Participants119 QI experts randomly assigned into four on-line panels.InterventionParticipants rated CQI features and discussed their answers using online, anonymous and asynchronous discussion boards. We analyzed ratings quantitatively and discussion threads qualitatively. Main outcome measure(s) Panel consensus on definitional CQI features.Results/st> Seventy-nine (66%) panelists completed the process. Thirty-three completers self-identified as QI researchers, 18 as QI practitioners and 28 as both equally. The features 'systematic data guided activities,' 'designing with local conditions in mind' and 'iterative development and testing' met a priori standards as essential CQI features. Qualitative analyses showed cross-cutting themes focused on differences between QI and CQI.ConclusionsWe found consensus among a broad group of CQI researchers and practitioners on three features as essential for identifying QI work more specifically as 'CQI.' All three features are needed as a minimum standard for recognizing CQI methods.

Project description:The data set contains data collected using a paper format and an online survey. The data includes a sample of 120 Finnish companies. The survey, structured into six sections focuses on the firms' growth outlooks and the underlying management practices and principles. The data reports the perceptions of top managers on growth, innovativeness, and the ability for renewal. The majority of the data comprises Likert scale questions on respondents' agreement or disagreement on innovation behaviors. This is complemented with micro-level data based indicator if a company is a growth company, the companies' growth expectations as percentage, and if COVID-19 has had business impacts. The data description is associated with a codebook and survey form. The data can be used to better understand growth and non-growth companies behaviours and outcomes. The associated material offers an opportunity to replicate the study in different regions.

Project description:Land surface temperature (LST) plays a critical role in land surface processes. However, as one of the effective means for obtaining global LST observations, remote sensing observations are inherently affected by cloud cover, resulting in varying degrees of missing data in satellite-derived LST products. Here, we propose a solution. First, the data interpolating empirical orthogonal functions (DINEOF) method is used to reconstruct invalid LSTs in cloud-contaminated areas into ideal, clear-sky LSTs. Then, a cumulative distribution function (CDF) matching-based method is developed to correct the ideal, clear-sky LSTs to the real LSTs. Experimental results prove that this method can effectively reconstruct missing LST data and guarantee acceptable accuracy in most regions of the world, with RMSEs of 1-2 K and R values of 0.820-0.996 under ideal, clear-sky conditions and RMSEs of 4-7 K and R values of 0.811-0.933 under all weather conditions. Finally, a spatiotemporally continuous MODIS LST dataset at 0.05° latitude/longitude grids is produced based on the above method.

Project description:Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) hold promise as treatments for previously untreatable and high-burden diseases. Expectations are high and active company pipelines are observed, yet only 10 market authorizations were approved in Europe. Our aim was to identify challenges experienced in European ATMP clinical development by companies. A survey-based cohort study was conducted among commercial ATMP developers. Respondents shared challenges experienced during various development phases, as well as developer and product characteristics. Descriptions of challenges were grouped in domains (clinical, financial, human resource management, regulatory, scientific, technical, other) and further categorized using thematic content analysis. A descriptive analysis was performed. We invited 271 commercial ATMP developers, of which 68 responded providing 243 challenges. Of products in development, 72% were in early clinical development and 40% were gene therapies. Most developers were small- or medium-sized enterprises (65%). The most often mentioned challenges were related to country-specific requirements (16%), manufacturing (15%), and clinical trial design (8%). The European ATMP field is still in its early stages, and developers experience challenges on many levels. Challenges are multifactorial and a mix of ATMP-specific and generic development aspects, such as new and orphan indications, novel technologies, and inexperience, adding complexity to development efforts.

Project description:BackgroundOsteopathy is an increasingly popular health care modality to address pain and function in the musculoskeletal system, organs and the head region, as well as functional somatic syndromes. Although osteopathy is recommended principally in guidelines for management of back pain, osteopaths' scope of practice is wide, albeit poorly defined. In order to understand better the practice of osteopathy, this study aimed to investigate the most common reasons for osteopathic consultations in clinical settings in Quebec.MethodsA prospective survey of members of the Registre des ostéopathes du Québec was conducted to examine demographics in osteopathic practices, as well as patients' primary reasons for consultations over a two-week period. The questionnaire was devised following a literature review and refined and verified with two stages of expert input.Results277 osteopaths (60[corrected]% response rate) responded to the survey notice. 14,002 patients' primary reasons for consultations were reported in completed questionnaires and returned by practicing osteopaths. Musculoskeletal pain located in the spine, thorax, pelvis and limbs was the most common reason for consultations (61.9%), with females consulting most commonly for cervical pain and males for lumbar pain. Perinatal and paediatric (11.8%), head (9.1%), visceral (5.0%) and general concerns (4.8%) were the other most common reasons for consultations. Preventive care represented the remaining 0.3%.InterpretationThe nature of primary reasons for osteopathic consultations, coupled with documented satisfaction of patients with this approach, suggest a future for multidisciplinary collaborative health care including osteopathy. Results of this survey may contribute to informing physicians and others pending regulation of Quebec osteopaths, and also provide direction for future clinical research and guidelines development.
