Monocyte counts are increased during human tuberculosis (TB) but it has not been determined whether <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> (<i>Mtb</i>) directly regulates myeloid commitment. We demonstrated that exposure to <i>Mtb</i> directs primary human CD34<sup>+</sup> cells to differentiate into monocytes/macrophages.
