Project description:Prevotella marseillensis strain Marseille-P8229T (= CSURP8229) is a new species isolated from a patient with recurrent Clostridium difficile infection. It is an anaerobic, non-motile, non-spore-forming Gram-negative coccobacillus isolated from the stool of patient with recurrent Clostridium difficile infection in Marseille. We present herein its phenotypic description together with MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis and genome sequencing and comparison. The genome of P. marseillensis is 4.1607 Mbp long with 45.80 mol% of G+C content, and it contains 3078 protein-coding genes.

Libanicoccus massiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a new bacterium isolated from human stool.

Project description:Strain Marseille-P3237 was isolated from a stool sample of a healthy 35-year-old Congolese pygmy female. This anaerobic, Gram-negative, non-spore-forming and non-motile coccus-shaped bacterium is a member of the order Coriobacteriales. It exhibits a 2 009 306-bp genome with a 65.46 mol% G+C content and is closely related to, but distinct from, members of the Olsenella genus. We propose the creation of the new genus Libanicoccus gen. nov. and of the new species Libanicoccus massiliensis sp. nov.

Clostridium aldenense sp. nov. and Clostridium citroniae sp. nov. isolated from human clinical infections.

Project description:One hundred eight isolates were previously identified in our laboratory as Clostridium clostridioforme by colonial and cellular morphology, as well as biochemical tests. Recent studies have indicated that there are actually three different species in this C. clostridioforme group: C. hathewayi, C. bolteae, and C. clostridioforme. Our isolates were reexamined using biochemical and enzymatic tests and molecular methods. Forty-six isolates were reidentified as C. hathewayi, 34 as C. bolteae, five as C. clostridioforme, and one as C. symbiosum. Twenty-two strains were identified only to the genus level by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and although they are microscopically and morphologically indistinguishable from the above-mentioned three species, they are phenotypically different and only 96 to 98% similar by gene sequencing. Twenty of these 22 strains were indole positive and formed two novel species. We propose Clostridium aldenense sp. nov. and Clostridium citroniae sp. nov. as names for these new species. They are differentiated from each other by results for raffinose, rhamnose, alpha-galactosidase, and beta-galactosidase: positive, negative, positive, and positive, respectively, for the former species and negative, positive, negative, and negative, respectively, for the latter species. The type strain of C. aldenense is RMA 9741 (ATCC BAA-1318; CCUG 52204), and the type strain of C. citroniae is RMA 16102 (ATCC BAA-1317; CCUG 52203).

Massilistercora timonensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a new bacterium isolated from the human microbiota.

Project description:Massilistercora timonensis gen. nov., sp. nov. strain Marseille-P3756T is a new species of the phylum Firmicutes; it was isolated from the human gut microbiota and has a genome of 2 769 591 bp (51.2% G + C). The closest species based on 16S rRNA sequence was Merdimonas faecis strain BR31 with 95.2 % sequence similarity. Considering phenotypic features and comparative genome studies, we proposed the strain Marseille-P3756T as the type strain of Massilistercora timonensis sp. nov., a new species within the genus Massilistercora.

Anaerococcus urinimassiliensis sp. nov., a new bacterium isolated from human urine.

Project description:To date there are thirteen species validly assigned to the genus Anaerococcus. Most of the species in this genus are anaerobic and of human origin. Anaerococcus urinimassiliensis sp. nov., strain Marseille-P2143T is member of family Peptoniphilaceae, which was isolated from the urine of a 17-year-old boy affected by autoimmune hepatitis and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis using the culturomic approach. In the current study, a taxono-genomics method was employed to describe this new species. The strain Marseille-P2143T was gram positive cocci with translucent colonies on blood agar. Its genome was 2,189,509 bp long with a 33.5 mol% G + C content and exhibited 98.48% 16S rRNA similarity with Anaerococcus provencensis strain 9,402,080. When Anaerococcus urinomassiliensis strain Marseill-P2143T is compared with closely related species, the values ranged from 71.23% with A. hydrogenalis strain DSM 7454T (NZ_ABXA01000052.1) to 90.64% with A. provencensis strain 9402080T (NZ_HG003688.1). This strain has implemented the repertoire of known bacteria of the human urinary tract.

The genome of Marseille-P3557T was 2 130 060 bp long (35.4% G + C content). The closest species based on 16S ribosomal RNA sequence was Anaerococcus prevotii strain 20548, with 97.6% sequence similarity. Considering phenotypic features and comparative genome studies, we propose the strain Marseille-P3557T as the type strain of Anaerococcus marasmi sp. nov., a new species within the genus Anaerococcus.
