Group A <i>Streptococcus</i> (GAS) invades epithelial cells causing persistent infection. GAS has a variety of effector proteins that modulate host systems to affect their survival in host environments. The main effector proteins of GAS are NAD-glycohydrolase (Nga) and streptolysin O (SLO).
