Psychometric Properties and Validation of the EMOTICOM Test Battery in a Healthy Danish Population.

ABSTRACT: Disruptions in hot cognition, i.e., the processing of emotionally salient information, are prevalent in most neuropsychiatric disorders and constitute a potential treatment target. EMOTICOM is the first comprehensive neuropsychological test battery developed specifically to assess hot cognition. The aim of the study was to validate and establish a Danish language version and reference data for the EMOTICOM test battery. To evaluate the psychometric properties of 11 EMOTICOM tasks, we collected data from 100 healthy Danish participants (50 males, 50 females) including retest data from 49 participants. We assessed test-retest reliability, floor and ceiling effects, task-intercorrelations, and correlations between task performance and relevant demographic and descriptive factors. We found that test-retest reliability varied from poor to excellent while some tasks exhibited floor or ceiling effects. Intercorrelations among EMOTICOM task outcomes were low, indicating that the tasks capture different cognitive constructs. EMOTICOM task performance was largely independent of age, sex, education, and IQ as well as current mood, personality, and self-reported motivation and diligence during task completion. Overall, many of the EMOTICOM tasks were found to be useful and objective measures of hot cognition although select tasks may benefit from modifications to avoid floor and ceiling effects in healthy individuals.

Project description:BackgroundPost-stroke individuals are observed to have reduced limits of stability (LOS) in all directions. Functional activities are rarely performed in pure cardinal planes; instead, they are most likely to be performed in an oblique direction. Existing tools are either expensive or sophisticated to assess the LOS in an oblique direction. Therefore, this study's primary objective is to evaluate the intra-rater, inter-rater reliability, and validity of the oblique direction reach test (ODRT) among stroke subjects.Materials & methodsA total of 96 first-time stroke patients with age, gender, height, and weight-matched healthy controls aged 18-80 years were recruited for the study. Oblique, forward, and lateral reach distances were assessed using the standard procedure of ODRT, Functional Reach Test (FRT), and Lateral Reach Test (LRT), respectively. Validity was tested by correlating the ODRT distance with the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) Score using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland Altman analysis were used to establish inter-rater reliability. ICCs were used to find intra-rater reliability. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to establish the mean difference of the FRT, LRT, and ODRT. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and linear regression were used to correlate the distance of FRT and LRT with ODRT.ResultsA high concurrent validity was found between BBS and ODRT with an r-value of 0.905 (p < 0.001). Inter-rater reliability was high with an ICC of 0.997 (95% CI [0.996-0.998]), and intra-rater reliability was highly significant with an ICC of 0.996 (95% CI [0.994-0.998]). The stroke subjects reached a significantly shorter distance than healthy individuals in FRT, ODRT, and LRT. ODRT was highly correlated with FRT (r = 0.985) and LRT (r = 0.978) (p < 0.001) and had an R2 = 0.987.ConclusionODRT is a highly valid and reliable tool that can be used to evaluate balance in stroke patients. Individuals who reached less in the forward and lateral directions showed reduced reach distance in the oblique direction.

Project description:IntroductionDrug dependence and the resultant problems notably decrease the quality of life (QOL). Measuring the QOL in persons who use drugs (PWUDs) and planning to improve it can be helpful for rehabilitation programs. Given the absence of a standard tool to measure the quality of life of PWUD, the present study is an attempt to validate psychometric and cultural characteristics of non-injection drug users' QOL scale.MethodThe study was carried out as a validation and methodological work. The study population consisted of 273 PWUDs in Kermanshah-based drug clinics including outgoing and hospitalized patients. The participants were selected through convenient-quota sampling. After securing the required permission from the copyright owner of the tool, it was forward/backward translated. Face validity and content validity were determined quantitatively and qualitatively. To examine construct validity of the tool, explorative factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's alpha and statistical analyses were performed using SPSS (v.25) and LISREL (v.8).ResultsExplorative factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) results supported the tool with one factor and 22 items. The R2 index in the model was equal to 0.99, which means that 99% of the variation of dependent variable (total score of QOL) is attributed to independent variable (22 statements). In other words, 99% of the variation of dependent variable is due to the independent variables in the model. The main indices of the model based on CFA all were higher than 0.9, which indicates goodness of fit of the model (χ2/DF = 2.18, CFI, NFI, TLI = 0.93 GF = 0.84, REMSEA = 0.066, R2 = 0.99). The correlative coefficient was significant (p < 0.05). The reliability of the tool based on internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) for the subscales ranged from 0.84 to 0.85 and equal to 0.84 for the whole tool.ConclusionThe Farsi version of non-injection drug users' QOL scale had acceptable indices and it was applicable to assess QOL in the target population. The tool can be used in different fields of drug addiction.

Project description:INTRODUCTION: The Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) is a commonly used instrument in the evaluation of fibromyalgia (FM) patients. Over the last 18 years, since the publication of the original FIQ, several deficiencies have become apparent and the cumbersome scoring algorithm has been a barrier to widespread clinical use. The aim of this paper is to describe and validate a revised version of the FIQ: the FIQR. METHODS: The FIQR was developed in response to known deficiencies of the FIQ with the help of a patient focus group. The FIQR has the same 3 domains as the FIQ (that is, function, overall impact and symptoms). It differs from the FIQ in having modified function questions and the inclusion of questions on memory, tenderness, balance and environmental sensitivity. All questions are graded on a 0-10 numeric scale. The FIQR was administered online and the results were compared to the same patient's online responses to the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and the original FIQ. RESULTS: The FIQR was completed online by 202 FM patients, 51 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients (31 RA and 20 SLE), 11 patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and 213 healthy controls (HC). The mean total FIQR score was 56.6 +/- 19.9 compared to a total FIQ score of 60.6 +/- 17.8 (P < 0.03). The total scores of the FIQR and FIQ were closely correlated (r = 0.88, P < 0.001). Each of the 3 domains of the FIQR correlated well with the 3 related FIQ domains (r = 0.69 to 0.88, P < 0.01). The FIQR showed good correlation with comparable domains in the SF-36, with a multiple regression analysis showing that the three FIQR domain scores predicted the 8 SF-36 subscale scores. The FIQR had good discriminant ability between FM and the 3 other groups; total FIQR scores were HC (12.1 +/- 11.6), RA/SLE (28.6 +/- 21.2) and MDD (17.3 +/- 11.8). The patient completion time was 1.3 minutes; scoring took about 1 minute. CONCLUSIONS: The FIQR is an updated version of the FIQ that has good psychometric properties, can be completed in less than 2 minutes and is easy to score. It has scoring characteristics comparable to the original FIQ, making it possible to compare past FIQ results with future FIQR results.
