A dataset of 1050-tampered color and grayscale images (CG-1050).

ABSTRACT: This paper presents the CG-1050 dataset consisting of 100 original images, 1050 tampered images and their corresponding masks. The dataset is organized into four directories: original images, tampered images, mask images, and a description file. The directory of original images includes 15 color and 85 grayscale images. The directory of tampered images has 1050 images obtained through one of the following type of tampering: copy-move, cut-paste, retouching, and colorizing. The true mask between every pair of original and its tampered image is included in the mask directory (1380 masks). The description file shows the names of the images (i.e., original, tampered and mask), the image description, the photo location, the type of tampering, and the manipulated object in the image. With this dataset, the researchers can train and validate fake image classification methods, either for labelling the tampered image or for forgery pixel-detection.

Grayscale-to-Color: Scalable Fabrication of Custom Multispectral Filter Arrays.

Project description:Snapshot multispectral image (MSI) sensors have been proposed as a key enabler for a plethora of multispectral imaging applications, from diagnostic medical imaging to remote sensing. With each application requiring a different set, and number, of spectral bands, the absence of a scalable, cost-effective manufacturing solution for custom multispectral filter arrays (MSFAs) has prevented widespread MSI adoption. Despite recent nanophotonic-based efforts, such as plasmonic or high-index metasurface arrays, large-area MSFA manufacturing still consists of many-layer dielectric (Fabry-Perot) stacks, requiring separate complex lithography steps for each spectral band and multiple material compositions for each. It is an expensive, cumbersome, and inflexible undertaking, but yields optimal optical performance. Here, we demonstrate a manufacturing process that enables cost-effective wafer-level fabrication of custom MSFAs in a single lithographic step, maintaining high efficiencies (∼75%) and narrow line widths (∼25 nm) across the visible to near-infrared. By merging grayscale (analog) lithography with metal-insulator-metal (MIM) Fabry-Perot cavities, whereby exposure dose controls cavity thickness, we demonstrate simplified fabrication of MSFAs up to N-wavelength bands. The concept is first proven using low-volume electron beam lithography, followed by the demonstration of large-volume UV mask-based photolithography with MSFAs produced at the wafer level. Our framework provides an attractive alternative to conventional MSFA manufacture and metasurface-based spectral filters by reducing both fabrication complexity and cost of these intricate optical devices, while increasing customizability.

Extending Ripley's K-Function to Quantify Aggregation in 2-D Grayscale Images.

Project description:In this work, we describe the extension of Ripley's K-function to allow for overlapping events at very high event densities. We show that problematic edge effects introduce significant bias to the function at very high densities and small radii, and propose a simple correction method that successfully restores the function's centralization. Using simulations of homogeneous Poisson distributions of events, as well as simulations of event clustering under different conditions, we investigate various aspects of the function, including its shape-dependence and correspondence between true cluster radius and radius at which the K-function is maximized. Furthermore, we validate the utility of the function in quantifying clustering in 2-D grayscale images using three modalities: (i) Simulations of particle clustering; (ii) Experimental co-expression of soluble and diffuse protein at varying ratios; (iii) Quantifying chromatin clustering in the nuclei of wt and crwn1 crwn2 mutant Arabidopsis plant cells, using a previously-published image dataset. Overall, our work shows that Ripley's K-function is a valid abstract statistical measure whose utility extends beyond the quantification of clustering of non-overlapping events. Potential benefits of this work include the quantification of protein and chromatin aggregation in fluorescent microscopic images. Furthermore, this function has the potential to become one of various abstract texture descriptors that are utilized in computer-assisted diagnostics in anatomic pathology and diagnostic radiology.

Dataset of vector mosquito images.

Project description:Mosquitoes pose substantial threat to public health resulting in million number of deaths wordlwide every year. They act as the vectors responsible for diseases such as Dengue, Yellow fever,Chikungunya, Zika etc. The harmful mosquito species are contained in the genera Aedes, Anopheles and Culex. Automated species identification of vectors is essential to implement targeted vector control strategies. The objective of the proposed paper is to construct a novel dataset of images of dangerous mosquito species. We have prepared a dataset of images of adult mosquitoes belonging to three species: Aedes Aegypti, Anopheles stephensi and Culex quinquefasciatus stored in two folders. The first folder comprises of total 2640 augmented images of mosquitoes belonging to the three species. The second folder contains original images of the the three species. The dataset is valuable for training machine and deep learning models for automatic species classification.

NIR-MFCO dataset: Near-infrared-based false-color images of post-consumer plastics at different material flow compositions and material flow presentations.

Project description:Determining mass-based material flow compositions (MFCOs) is crucial for assessing and optimizing the recycling of post-consumer plastics. Currently, MFCOs in plastic recycling are primarily determined through manual sorting analysis, but the use of inline near-infrared (NIR) sensors holds potential to automate the characterization process, paving the way for novel sensor-based material flow characterization (SBMC) applications. This data article aims to expedite SBMC research by providing NIR-based false-color images of plastic material flows with their corresponding MFCOs. The false-color images were created through the pixel-based classification of binary material mixtures using a hyperspectral imaging camera (EVK HELIOS NIR G2-320; 990 nm-1678 nm wavelength range) and the on-chip classification algorithm (CLASS 32). The resulting NIR-MFCO dataset includes n = 880 false-color images from three test series: (T1) high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) flakes, (T2a) post-consumer HDPE packaging and PET bottles, and (T2b) post-consumer HDPE packaging and beverage cartons for n = 11 different HDPE shares (0% - 50%) at four different material flow presentations (singled, monolayer, bulk height H1, bulk height H2). The dataset can be used, e.g., to train machine learning algorithms, evaluate the accuracy of inline SBMC applications, and deepen the understanding of segregation effects of anthropogenic material flows, thus further advancing SBMC research and enhancing post-consumer plastic recycling.

Real-Color Volume Models Made from Real-Color Sectioned Images of Visible Korean.

Project description:BackgroundVolume models made from magnetic resonance images on computed tomographs can produce horizontal, coronal, sagittal, and oblique planes that are used widely in clinics, although detailed structures cannot be identified. Existing real color volume models are mostly commercial and their production methods have not been released. The aim of this study was to distribute free of charge, real-color volume models produced from sectioned images with the production method.MethodsThe original voxel size of sectioned images was increased appropriately so that the volume model could be handled by typical personal computers. By using Dicom Browser and MRIcroGL, the sectioned images were processed to become the volume models.ResultsOn the MRIcroGL, the resultant volume model with the voxel size of 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5 mm3 could be displayed and freely rotated. By adjusting variables of the software, desired oblique planes could be produced instantly. With overlay function, a model of segmented structure can be overlapped to the entire volume models. The sectioned images with high quality and the segmentation data of Visible Korean enabled the identification of detailed anatomical structures on the planes.ConclusionThe volume models can be used by medical students and doctors for learning sectional anatomy. Other researchers can utilize the method of this study to produce volume models from their own sectioned images.

Color-complexity enabled exhaustive color-dots identification and spatial patterns testing in images.

Project description:Our computational developments and analyses on experimental images are designed to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical spraying via unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Our evaluations are in accord with the two perspectives of color-complexity: color variety within a color system and color distributional geometry on an image. First, by working within RGB and HSV color systems, we develop a new color-identification algorithm relying on highly associative relations among three color-coordinates to lead us to exhaustively identify all targeted color-pixels. A color-dot is then identified as one isolated network of connected color-pixel. All identified color-dots vary in shapes and sizes within each image. Such a pixel-based computing algorithm is shown robustly and efficiently accommodating heterogeneity due to shaded regions and lighting conditions. Secondly, all color-dots with varying sizes are categorized into three categories. Since the number of small color-dot is rather large, we spatially divide the entire image into a 2D lattice of rectangular. As such, each rectangle becomes a collective of color-dots of various sizes and is classified with respect to its color-dots intensity. We progressively construct a series of minimum spanning trees (MST) as multiscale 2D distributional spatial geometries in a decreasing-intensity fashion. We extract the distributions of distances among connected rectangle-nodes in the observed MST and simulated MSTs generated under the spatial uniformness assumption. We devise a new algorithm for testing 2D spatial uniformness based on a Hierarchical clustering tree upon all involving MSTs. This new tree-based p-value evaluation has the capacity to become exact.

The rise of electrochromics through dynamic QR codes and grayscale images in screen printed passive matrix addressed displays.

Project description:Electronic matrix addressed displays capable of presenting arbitrary grayscale images typically require complex device architectures including switching components to provide unique pixel addressability. Here, we demonstrate high-yield manufacturing of passive matrix addressed electrochromic displays on flexible substrates by solely using screen printing. The simple pixel architecture, obtained by printing only three active layers on top of each other, concurrently provides both the electrochromic functionality and the critical non-linear pixel switching response that enables presentation of arbitrary grayscale images in the resulting passive matrix addressed displays. The all-printed display technology exhibits unprecedented performance and is further verified by dynamic QR codes, to exemplify utilization within authentication, packaging, or other emerging Internet of Things applications requiring a low-cost display for data visualization.

MDL constrained 3-D grayscale skeletonization algorithm for automated extraction of dendrites and spines from fluorescence confocal images.

Project description:This paper presents a method for improved automatic delineation of dendrites and spines from three-dimensional (3-D) images of neurons acquired by confocal or multi-photon fluorescence microscopy. The core advance presented here is a direct grayscale skeletonization algorithm that is constrained by a structural complexity penalty using the minimum description length (MDL) principle, and additional neuroanatomy-specific constraints. The 3-D skeleton is extracted directly from the grayscale image data, avoiding errors introduced by image binarization. The MDL method achieves a practical tradeoff between the complexity of the skeleton and its coverage of the fluorescence signal. Additional advances include the use of 3-D spline smoothing of dendrites to improve spine detection, and graph-theoretic algorithms to explore and extract the dendritic structure from the grayscale skeleton using an intensity-weighted minimum spanning tree (IW-MST) algorithm. This algorithm was evaluated on 30 datasets organized in 8 groups from multiple laboratories. Spines were detected with false negative rates less than 10% on most datasets (the average is 7.1%), and the average false positive rate was 11.8%. The software is available in open source form.

Dataset of breast mammography images with masses.

Project description:Among many cancers, breast cancer is the second most common cause of death in women. Early detection and early treatment reduce breast cancer mortality. Mammography plays an important role in breast cancer screening because it can detect early breast masses or calcification region. One of the drawbacks in breast mammography is breast cancer masses are more difficult to be found in extremely dense breast tissue. We select 106 breast mammography images with masses from INbreast database. Through data augmentation, the number of breast mammography images was increased to 7632. We utilize data augmentation on breast mammography images, and then apply the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) models including AlexNet, DenseNet, and ShuffleNet to classify these breast mammography images.
