Many adult tissues contain resident stem cells, such as the Pax7<sup>+</sup> satellite cells within skeletal muscle, that regenerate parenchymal elements following damage. Tissue-resident mesenchymal progenitors (MPs) also participate in regeneration, although their function and fate in this process are unclear.
