For precisely regulating intracellular Ca<sup>2+</sup> signals in a time- and space-dependent manner, cells make use of various components of the "Ca<sup>2+</sup> signaling toolkit," including Ca<sup>2+</sup> entry and Ca<sup>2+</sup> extrusion systems.
