Low amylose content (AC) is a desirable trait for rice (<i>Oryza sativa</i> L.) cooking quality and is selected in soft rice breeding. The <i>Wx</i> <i><sup>hp</sup></i> allele was derived from a Yunnan rice landrace in China, Haopi, with low AC.
