Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) has a potent action in promoting the survival of dopamine (DA) neurons. Several studies indicate that increasing GDNF levels may be beneficial for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) by reducing neurodegeneration of DA neurons.
