ABSTRACT: 2,3-Dichloro-3',4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, C12H8Cl2O2, is a putative dihydroxylated metabolite of 2,3-dichlorobiphenyl (PCB 5). The title structure displays intramolecular O-H···O hydrogen bonding, and the ?-? stacking distance between inversion related chlorinated benzene rings of the title compound is 3.371 (3) Å. The dihedral angle between two benzene rings is 59.39 (8)°.

Project description:In the title compound, C(12)H(7)Cl(4)NO(2)S, the conformation of the N-C bond in the C-SO(2)-NH-C segment is gauche with respect to the S=O bonds. Further, the N-H bond in the C-SO(2)-NH-C segment is syn with respect to the ortho-Cl atoms in the aniline and sulfonyl benzene rings. The C-SO(2)-NH-C torsion angle is -51.98?(18)°. The sulfonyl and aniline benzene rings are tilted by 67.7?(1)° relative to each other. An intra-molecular N-H?Cl hydrogen bond occurs.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(11)H(11)Cl(2)NO(3), contains two independent mol-ecules. In both the molecules, the H atoms of the adjacent -CH(2) groups of the acid segments orient themselves away from the amide O and the carbonyl O atoms. The C=O and O-CH(3) bonds of the ester group are in syn positions with respect to each other. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked into infinite chains through inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Crystallization and preliminary crystallographic analysis of manganese(II)-dependent 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl 1,2-dioxygenase from Bacillus sp. JF8.

Project description:A thermostable manganese(II)-dependent 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl-1,2-dioxygenase derived from Bacillus sp. JF8 was crystallized. The initial screening for crystallization was performed by the sitting-drop vapour-diffusion method using a crystallization robot, resulting in the growth of two crystal forms. The first crystal belonged to space group P1, with unit-cell parameters a = 62.7, b = 71.4, c = 93.6 A, alpha = 71.2, beta = 81.0, gamma = 64.0 degrees, and diffracted to 1.3 A resolution. The second crystal belonged to space group I222, with unit-cell parameters a = 74.2, b = 90.8, c = 104.3 A, and diffracted to 1.3 A resolution. Molecular-replacement trials using homoprotocatechuate 2,3-dioxygenase from Arthrobacter globiformis (28% amino-acid sequence identity) as a search model provided a satisfactory solution for both crystal forms.

Project description:The conformation of the N-H bond in the title compound, C(10)H(11)Cl(2)NO, is syn to both the 2- and 3-methyl substituents in the aromatic ring, similar to that of the 2-chloro and 3-chloro substituents in 2,2-dichloro-N-(2,3-dichloro-phen-yl)acetamide and the 2-methyl substituent in 2,2-dichloro-N-(2-methyl-phen-yl)acetamide, but in contrast to the anti conformation observed with respect to the 3-methyl substituent in 2,2-dichloro-N-(3-methyl-phen-yl)acetamide. The bond parameters in the title compound are similar to those in 2,2-dichloro-N-phenyl-acetamide and other acetanilides. The mol-ecules of the title compound are linked into chains through N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonding.
