Effect of acupoint therapies on prostatitis: A systematic review protocol.

ABSTRACT:

Background

Prostatitis is a common urinary infectious disease. Acupoint therapies, including massage, acupuncture, acupoints injection, acupressure, and moxibustion, showed clinical and long-lasting benefits for prostatitis, but the efficiency of acupoint therapies was poorly evaluated. The current review is attempted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the different acupoint-based therapies for prostatitis.

Methods

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing acupoint therapies for prostatitis are included in the following databases: Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, Wan Fang Data Knowledge Service Platform, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP database), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and EMBASE. All RCTs on acupoint or related interventions will be included we will also conduct unpublished academic research data. Databases will be searched from inception to Dec 2019. Study inclusion, data extraction, and quality assessment will be performed independently by 2 reviewers. Assessment of risk of bias and data synthesis will be performed by RevMan 5.3 software. Cochrane criteria for risk-of-bias will be used to assess the methodological quality of the trials.

Results

According to the data of effective rate, quality of life, the cure rate, the recurrent rate, and the complications rate, this study will provide an evidence-based review of acupoint therapies for prostatitis.

Conclusion

This systematic review will evaluate the efficacy, and safety of the different acupoint-based therapies for prostatitis, we will recommend which acupoint therapies may be considered as the effective treatment for prostatitis, and show how it might work.

Project description:BackgroundPatients suffering from chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) might have negative adherence of treatment. Acupoint therapies, including acupuncture, acupressure, acupoints injection, massage, and moxibustion, are safe medical procedures with minimal side effects for CINV, but studies about overall safety and effectiveness of acupoint therapies have not been scientifically and methodically evaluated in recent years. Evaluating the overall safety and effectiveness of acupoint therapies in patients with CINV is the purpose of this review.Methods and analysisRelevant randomized controlled trials (RCTSs) are being searched in the following electronic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP database), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM). We will also attempt to obtain the unpublished academic data by contacting the colleague, professor, or Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The RCTs of the acupoint therapies for CINV patients will be searched in the databases from inception to July 2019. The primary outcomes are defined as severity, duration and frequency of nausea or vomiting, or both. The secondary outcomes are defined as any adverse events and quality of life. Performing the meta-analysis by using RevMan version 5 software. Mean difference (MD) or standardized mean difference (SMD) will express the continuous variables, while relative risk (RR) will express the categorical variables.ResultsThe results of this review will provide a high-quality synthesis to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupoint therapies for CINV.ConclusionThis review will provide evidence to estimate whether acupoint therapies are effective interventions for CINV.DisseminationEvidence whether acupoint therapies are effective interventions for CINV will be provided by this systematic review. This knowledge will recommend better acupoint therapies and selections of acupoints which might be helpful in treating CINV. Project description:Acupuncture is a promising therapy for relieving symptoms in chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS), which affects >15% of adult men worldwide. The aim of the study was to assess the effects and safety of the use of acupuncture for CP/CPPS. MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Web of Science, CBM, CNKI, Wang-Fang Database, JCRM, and CiNii were searched from their inception through 30 November 2015. Grey literature databases and websites were also searched. No language limits were applied. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with CP/CPPS treated by acupuncture were included. Two reviewers extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of RCTs using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tools, respectively. Seven trials were included, involving 471 participants. The result of meta-analysis indicated that compared with sham acupuncture (MD: -6.09 [95%CI: -8.12 to -5.68]) and medicine (Levofloxacinand, Ibuprofen, and Tamsulosin) (MD: -4.57 [95%CI: -7.58 to -1.56]), acupuncture was more effective at decreasing the total NIH-CPSI score. Real acupuncture was superior to sham acupuncture in improving symptoms (pain, voiding) and quality of life (Qof) domain subscores. Compared to sham acupuncture and medicine, acupuncture appears to be more effective at improving the global assessment. Two trials found that there is no significant difference between acupuncture and sham acupuncture in decreasing the IPSS score. Acupuncture failed to show more favorable effects in improving both symptoms and the Qof domain compared with medicine. Overall, current evidence supports acupuncture as an effective treatment for CP/CPPS-induced symptoms, particularly in relieving pain. Based on the meta-analysis, acupuncture is superior to sham acupuncture in improving symptoms and Qof. Acupuncture might be similar to medicine (Levofloxacinand, Ibuprofen, and Tamsulosin) in its long-term effects, but evidence was limited due to high ROB among included trials as well as potential heterogeneity. Project description:IntroductionBehavioural and cognitive behavioural programmes are commonly used to assist with weight management, but there is considerable scope to improve their effectiveness, particularly in the longer term. Third-wave cognitive behaviour therapies (CBTs) have this potential and are increasingly used. This systematic review will assess the effect of third-wave CBTs for weight management on weight, psychological and physical health outcomes in adults with overweight or obesity.Methods and analysisThe systematic review will be reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidance. We will include studies of any third-wave CBTs focusing on weight loss or weight maintenance for adults with a body mass index (BMI) ≥25kg/m2. Eligible study designs will be randomised control trials, non-randomised trials, prospective cohort and case series. Outcomes of interest will be body weight/BMI, psychological and physical health, and adherence. We will search the following databases from inception to 16 January 2018: MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane database (CENTRAL), PsycINFO, AMED, ASSIA and Web of Science. The search strategy will be based on the concepts: (1) third-wave CBTs and (2) overweight, obesity or weight management. No restrictions will be applied. We will search reference lists of relevant reviews and included articles. Two independent reviewers will screen articles for eligibility using a two-stage process. Two independent reviewers will extract data, assess risk of bias using Risk of Bias 2.0, Risk of Bias in Non-randomised studies of Interventions or Risk of Bias in Non-randomised Studies of Exposures checklist and assess quality using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation tool. A random-effects network meta-analysis of outcomes, and sub-group analyses and meta-regression will be conducted, where data permit. If not appropriate, a narrative synthesis will be undertaken.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval is not required as no primary data will be collected. The completed systematic review will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal, presented at conferences and used to inform the development of a weight management programme.Prospero registration numberCRD42018088255.
