Draft Genome Sequence of Phenol-Degrading Variovorax boronicumulans Strain HAB-30.

ABSTRACT: We report the draft genome sequence of Variovorax boronicumulans strain HAB-30, which was isolated from a phenol-degrading chemostat culture. This strain contains genes encoding a multicomponent type of phenol hydroxylase, with degradation pathways for catechol and other aromatic compounds. The genome sequence will be useful for understanding the metabolic pathways involved in phenol degradation.

Project description:We report here the draft genome sequence of Acinetobacter sp. Strain V2 isolated from the oil contaminated soil collected from ENGEN, Amanzimtoti, South Africa. Degradation of phenolic compounds such as phenol, toluene, aniline etc. at 400ppm in 24h and oil degrading capability makes this organism an efficient multifunctional bioremediator. Genome sequencing of Acinetobacter spp. V2 was carried out on Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform (performed by the Beijing Genomics Institute [BGI], Shenzhen, China). The data obtained revealed 643 contigs with genome size of 4.0 Mb and G+C content of 38.59%.

Project description:Pseudomonas putida SQ1 was isolated for its ability to utilize the plant sugar sulfoquinovose (6-deoxy-6-sulfoglucose) for growth, in order to define its SQ-degradation pathway and the enzymes and genes involved. Here we describe the features of the organism, together with its draft genome sequence and annotation. The draft genome comprises 5,328,888 bp and is predicted to encode 5,824 protein-coding genes; the overall G + C content is 61.58 %. The genome annotation is being used for identification of proteins that might be involved in SQ degradation by peptide fingerprinting-mass spectrometry.
