Facile Synthesis of FAPbI3 Nanorods.

ABSTRACT: Metal halide perovskites are promising materials for a range of applications. The synthesis of light-emitting perovskite nanorods has become popular recently. Thus far, the facile synthesis of perovskite nanorods remains elusive. In this work, we have developed a facile synthesis to fabricate FAPbI3 nanorods for the first time, demonstrating a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 35-42%. The fabrication of the nanorods has been made possible by carefully tuning the concentration of formamidine-oleate as well as the amount of oleic acid with pre-dissolved PbI2 in toluene with oleic acid/oleylamine.

A facile synthesis of novel self-assembled gold nanorods designed for near-infrared imaging.

Project description:Molecular imaging techniques now allow recognition of early biochemical, physiological, and anatomical changes before manifestation of gross pathological changes. Photoacoustic imaging represents a novel non-ionizing detection technique that combines the advantages of optical and ultrasound imaging. Noninvasive photoacoustic tomography (PAT) imaging in combination with nanoparticle-based contrast agents show promise in improved detection and diagnosis of cardiovascular and cancer related diseases. In this report, a novel strategy is introduced to achieve self-assembled colloidal gold nanorods, which are constrained to the vasculature. Gold nanorods (2-4 nm) were incorporated into the core of self-assembled lipid-encapsulated nanoparticles (sGNR) (approximately 130 nm), providing more than hundreds of gold atoms per nanoparticle of 20% colloid suspension. The physico-chemical characterization in solution and anhydrous state with analytical techniques demonstrated that the particles were spherical and highly mono dispersed. In addition to the synthesis and characterization, sensitive near-infrared photoacoustic detection was impressively demonstrated in vitro.

Highly porous Co-doped NiO nanorods: facile hydrothermal synthesis and electrocatalytic oxygen evolution properties.

Project description:Highly porous 3d transition metal oxide nanostructures are opening up the exciting area of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts in alkaline medium thanks to their good thermal and chemical stability, excellent physiochemical properties, high specific surface area and abundant nanopores. In this paper, highly porous Co-doped NiO nanorods were successfully synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The porous rod-like nanostructures were preserved with the added cobalt dopant ranging from 1 to 5 at% but were broken into aggregated nanoparticles at higher concentrations of additional cobalt. The catalytic activity of Co-doped NiO nanostructures for OER in an alkaline medium was assayed. The 5%Co-NiO sample showed a drastically enhanced activity. This result could originate from the combination of advantageous characteristics of highly porous NiO nanorods such as large surface area and high porosity as well as the important role of Co dopant that could provide more catalytic active sites, leading to an enhanced catalytic activity of the nanocatalyst.

Facile and Eco-Friendly Synthesis of Finger-Like Co₃O₄ Nanorods for Electrochemical Energy Storage.

Project description:Co₃O₄ nanorods were prepared by a facile hydrothermal method. Eco-friendly deionized water rather than organic solvent was used as the hydrothermal media. The as-prepared Co₃O₄ nanorods are composed of many nanoparticles of 30-50 nm in diameter, forming a finger-like morphology. The Co₃O₄ electrode shows a specific capacitance of 265 F g-1 at 2 mV s-1 in a supercapacitor and delivers an initial specific discharge capacity as high as 1171 mAh g-1 at a current density of 50 mA g-1 in a lithium ion battery. Excellent cycling stability and electrochemical reversibility of the Co₃O₄ electrode were also obtained.

Facile Synthesis of Core-Shell Structured SiO2@Carbon Composite Nanorods for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Project description:Recently, SiO2 has attracted wide attention in lithium-ion batteries owing to its high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, the utilization of SiO2 is impeded by the enormous volume expansion and low electric conductivity. Although constructing SiO2/carbon composite can significantly enhance the electrochemical performance, the skillful preparation of the well-defined SiO2/carbon composite is still a remaining challenge. Here, a facile strategy of in situ coating of polydopamine is applied to synthesis of a series of core-shell structured SiO2@carbon composite nanorods with different thicknesses of carbon shells. The carbon shell uniformly coated on the surface of SiO2 nanorods significantly suppresses the volume expansion to some extent, as well as improves the electric conductivity of SiO2. Therefore, the composite nanorods exhibit a remarkable electrochemical performance as the electrode materials of lithium-ion batteries. For instance, a high and stable reversible capacity at a current density of 100 mA g-1 reaches 690 mAh g-1 and a capacity of 344.9 mAh g-1 can be achieved even at the high current density of 1000 mA g-1. In addition, excellent capacity retention reaches 95% over 100 cycles. These SiO2@carbon composite nanorods with decent electrochemical performances hold great potential for applications in lithium-ion batteries.

Combined Facile Synthesis, Purification, and Surface Functionalization Approach Yields Monodispersed Gold Nanorods for Drug Delivery Applications.

Project description:Synthesizing gold nanorods (AuNRs) by seed-mediated growth method results in the presence of undesired size and shape particles by-products occupying 10-90% of the population. In this study, AuNRs are synthesized by the seed-mediated growth method using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant. AuNRs with redshifted longitudinal localized surface plasmon resonance (LLSPR) peak, localized in the biological "transparency window" (650-1350 nm), are synthesized after optimizing seed solution, silver nitrate solution, and hydrochloric acid solution volumes, based on the published protocols. A two-step purification method, dialysis followed by centrifugation, is applied to remove excess CTAB and collect LLSPR-redshifted AuNRs with high rod purity (>90%). CTAB is subsequently exchanged with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to improve AuNRs biocompatibility. PEGylated AuNRs are confirmed innocuous to both SN4741 cells and B16F10 cells by the modified MTT assay and the modified lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assay up to 1 nm and 24 h incubation. In this study, a combined facile synthesis, purification, and surface functionalization approach is proposed to obtain water-dispersible monodispersed AuNRs for drug delivery applications.

A Facile Synthesis of Novel Amorphous TiO2 Nanorods Decorated rGO Hybrid Composites with Wide Band Microwave Absorption.

Project description:Amorphous structures may play important roles in achieving highly efficient microwave absorption performance due to the polarization losses induced by the disorders, vacancies and other functional groups existed in them. Herein, a kind of amorphous TiO2/rGO composite (a-TiO2/rGO) was successfully fabricated via a facile one-step solvothermal method. The complex permittivity of the composites can be regulated by adjusting the addition of precursor solution. The minimum reflection loss of a-TiO2/rGO composites reached -42.8 dB at 8.72 GHz with a thickness of 3.25 mm, and the widest efficient absorption bandwidth (EAB) was up to 6.2 GHz (11.8 to 18 GHz) with a thickness of only 2.15 mm, which achieved the full absorption in Ku band (12 to 18 GHz). Furthermore, the EAB was achieved ranging from 3.97 to 18 GHz by adjusting the thickness of the absorber, covering 87.7% of the whole radar frequency band. It is considered that the well-matched impedance, various polarization processes, capacitor-like structure and conductive networks all contributed to the excellent microwave absorption of a-TiO2/rGO. This study provides reference on constructing amorphous structures for future microwave absorber researches and the as-prepared a-TiO2/rGO composites also have great potential owing to its facile synthesis and highly efficient microwave absorption.

Facile Preparation of Organometallic Nanorods from Various Ethynyl-Substituted Molecules.

Project description:A facile method to prepare one-dimensional (1D) organometallic nanomaterials from various ethynyl-substituted molecules is reported. The reactions of 3-chloro-1-ethynylbenzene, p-tBu-phenylacetylene and 4-ethynylbiphenyl with Cu+ ions in acetonitrile yield nanorod-shaped copper acetylides (Cu-C≡C-R) crystals. In the case of linear alkynes, namely, propyne, 1-pentyne and 1-hexyne, it was found that using an aqueous ammonia/ethanol mixed solvent instead of acetonitrile is a better approach to obtain 1D nanostructures. This procedure also enables us to prepare functional 1D nanomaterials. We demonstrate the preparation of a paramagnetic nanorod from the organic radical p-ethynylphenyl nitronyl nitroxide, and fluorescent nanorods from 9-ethynylphenanthrene and 2-ethynyl-9,9'-spirobifluorene.

Room-Temperature Synthesis of Air-Stable Near-Infrared Emission in FAPbI3 Nanoparticles Embedded in Silica.

Project description:Hybrid organic-inorganic and all-inorganic metal halide perovskite nanoparticles (PNPs) have shown their excellent characteristics for optoelectronic applications. We report an atmospheric process to embed formamidinium CH(NH2)2PbI3 (FAPbI3) PNPs in silica protective layer at room temperature (approximately 26 °C) employing (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES). The resulting perovskite nanocomposite (PNCs) achieved a high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield of 58.0% and good stability under atmospheric moisture conditions. Moreover, the PNCs showed high PL intensity over 1 month of storage (approximately 26 °C) and more than 380 min of PNCs solutions in DI water. The studied near-infrared (NIR) light-emitting diode (LED) combined a NIR-emitting PNCs coating and a blue InGaN-based chip that exhibited a 788 nm electroluminescence spectrum of NIR-LEDs under 2.6 V. This may be a powerful tool to track of muscle and disabled patients in the detection of a blood vessel.

Facile Synthesis of Saikosaponins.

Project description:Saikosaponin A (SSa) and D (SSd) are typical oleanane-type saponins featuring a unique 13,28-epoxy-ether moiety at D ring of the aglycones, which exhibit a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. Herein, we report the first synthesis of saikosaponin A/D (1-2) and their natural congeners, including prosaikosaponin F (3), G (4), saikosaponin Y (5), prosaikogenin (6), and clinoposaponin I (7). The present synthesis features ready preparation of the aglycones of high oxidation state from oleanolic acid, regioselective glycosylation to construct the β-(1→3)-linked disaccharide fragment, and efficient gold(I)-catalyzed glycosylation to install the glycans on to the aglycones.

The application of benzoyl peroxide-promoted radical addition of unsaturated ester to aldehyde and subsequent topologically favored cyclization greatly simplified the synthesis.
