A Retrospective Case Report on the Longevity of a Reimplanted Closed-Apex Avulsed Canine.

ABSTRACT: For an avulsed tooth with closed apices, it is recommended that the tooth undergoes elective root canal treatment. We however present in this case report a 73-year-old Afro-Caribbean lady, with an asymptomatic, untreated, self-replanted lower left canine which suffered an avulsion 45 years ago. The patient reported no loss of function. This case illustrates the potentially positive outcome of a replanted, non-root-treated, avulsed closed-apex tooth while highlighting the significance of patient-related factors.

Project description:Renal leiomyosarcomas (LMS) are extremely rare neoplasms with aggressive behaviour and poor survival prognosis. The most frequent somatic events in leiomyosarcomas are mutations in TP53, RB1, ATRX and PTEN genes, chromosomal instability and chromoanagenesis. By using chromosomal microarray analysis we identified monosomy of chromosomes 3 and 11, gain of Xp (ATRX) arm and three chromoanasynthesis regions (6q21-q27, 7p22.3-p12.1 and 12q13.11-q21.2), with MDM2 and CDK4 oncogenes copy number gains, whereas no CNVs or tumor specific SNVs in TP53, RB1 and PTEN genes were observed.

Glioneuronal tumor with CLIP2-MET fusion: A case report

Project description:Glioneuronal tumor (GN) is one type of biphasic central nervous system (CNS) tumor that exhibits both glial and neuronal immunohistological characteristics. We report a case of glioneuronal tumor (GN) with a discovery of novel gene fusion of CLIP2-MET resulting from aberrant chromosome 7 abnormalities. The tumor exhibited typical characteristics on histological examinations. We executed an elaborate genomic study on this case including whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing. Genomic analysis of the tumor revealed aberrations in chromosomes 1 and 7 and a CLIP2-MET fusion. Further analysis of the upregulated genes revealed substantial connections with MAPK pathway activation. We concluded that the chromosome 7 abnormalities prompted CLIP2-MET gene fusion which successively leads to MAPK pathway activation. We deliberated that MAPK pathway activation is responsible for the oncogenesis of GN based on our case and other previously reported ones.

Closed reduction of a traumatic hip dislocation in children: case report.

Project description:Traumatic dislocation of the hip in children is a rare disease. It only represents 5% of hip dislocations in all age groups. Before 10 years, the mechanism is often a minimal domestic accident; after 10 years, the dislocation occurs with the waning of an accident of the public highway. It is different from that of the adult by its rarity, its ease of reduction and better prognosis. This is an emergency trauma: risk necrosis of the femoral head (If delayed reduction). We report a rare case of a 3 year old boy, who suffered from bipolar trauma after a fall near his height of his house causing him a detachment of the right humerus and post-traumatic dislocation of the left hip. The diagnosis was clinically confirmed by the results of standard radiographs and CT scans of the pelvis. The consultation period to emergencies was 5 hours after the trauma. We performed an hour after a closed reduction under general anesthesia for hip dislocation with establishment of a splint pelvic-pedal for analgesic keep for three weeks. The radiological outcome was satisfactory. Peeling Salter I humerus was reduced by orthopedic manner and immobilized by thoracoabdominal plaster to keep for a month. The child was discharged the next day. Reviewed in consultation after a month, the clinical examination showed a steady left hip. Traumatic dislocation of the hip in children is a rare diagnosis, the management should as urgent as possible to overcome the different possible subsequent complications dominated by coxa magna.

BRAT1 Mutation Retrospective Diagnosis: A Case Report.

Project description:Biallelic mutations in the BRAT1 gene have been reported in cases with Lethal neonatal rigidity and multifocal seizure syndrome (RMFSL), since 2012. Clinical features include progressive encephalopathy, dysmorphic features, microcephaly, hypertonia, developmental delay, refractory epilepsy, episodic apnea, and bradycardia. More recently, biallelic BRAT1 mutations have been associated with a milder phenotype in patients with migrating focal seizures in the absence of rigidity or with nonprogressive congenital ataxia with or without epilepsy (NEDCAS). It has been proposed that the loss of function caused by BRAT1 mutations may decrease cell proliferation and migration and cause neuronal atrophy through impairment of mitochondrial homeostasis. We here report a female infant with a phenotype, electroencephalogram (EEG), and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) consistent with RMFSL, whose diagnosis was indirectly formulated three years after death upon the identification in both parents of a known pathogenetic variant in the BRAT1 gene. Our report emphasizes the remarkable potential of novel genetic technologies for the diagnosis of past unsolved clinical cases.
