ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of the title compound, C10H13N·3H2O, a heterocyclic amine, was determined in the presence of water. The compound co-crystallizes with three water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, which leads to the formation of hydrogen bonding in the crystal.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?N(nitrile) hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers. The dimers are further linked by N-H?N(amine) hydrogen bonds, and both units are arranged almost perpendicular to each other [angle between dimer mean planes = 84.43?(12)°]. This arrangement is extended to form a ladder-like structure parallel to the c axis.

Project description:In the title compound, C10H11NO2, two independent but virtually superimposable mol-ecules, A and B, comprise the asymmetric unit. The heterocyclic ring in each mol-ecule has a screw-boat conformation, and the methyl-hydroxyl group occupies a position to one side of this ring with N-C-C-O torsion angles of -55.30 (15) (mol-ecule A) and -55.94 (16)° (mol-ecule B). In the crystal, O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding leads to 11-membered {⋯HNCO⋯HO⋯HNC2O} heterosynthons, involving three different mol-ecules, which are edge-shared to generate a supra-molecular chain along the a axis. Project description:In the title compound, C28H21N3O, the 1,2-di-hydro-pyridine ring of the 1,2,7,8-tetra-hydro-iso-quinoline ring system is planar as expected, while the cyclo-hexa-1,3-diene ring has a twist-boat conformation, with Cremer-Pople parameters Q T = 0.367 (2) A, θ = 117.3 (3)° and φ = 327.3 (4)°. The dihedral angles between the best planes through the iso-quinoline ring system and the three phenyl rings are 81.69 (12), 82.45 (11) and 47.36 (10)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. Furthermore, the crystal packing is dominated by C-H⋯π bonds with a strong inter-action involving the phenyl H atoms. The role of the inter-molecular inter-actions in the crystal packing was clarified using Hirshfeld surface analysis, and two-dimensional fingerprint plots indicate that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H⋯H (46.0%), C⋯H/H⋯C (35.1%) and N⋯H/H⋯N (10.5%) contacts.
