A Rare Case of Nonsyndromic Generalized Radiculomegaly with a Literature Review.

ABSTRACT: Radiculomegaly is a rare condition involving elongated tooth roots. This condition has significant clinical implications and has been associated with syndromes such as oculofaciocardiodental syndrome. However, only a few nonsyndromic cases of radiculomegaly have been reported. Here, we report a case of nonsyndromic radiculomegaly in a Saudi individual. A subsequent review of the literature suggests endodontic management modalities for individuals with the dental findings demonstrated in the present case.

Rare giant maxillay mucocele: A rare case report and literature review.

Project description:IntroductionMucocele is a slow growing, benign but locally aggressive cystic structure lined by true epithelium. It often results due to obstructed sinus outflow or obstruction of gland-like mucous retention cyst. It can cause bony destruction and might result in orbital symptoms like diplopia, orbital displacement, visual disturbances. Other clinical features are facial numbness, dental problems, etc. Radiological evaluation is the preferred diagnostic modality. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice both endoscopic and open (could well luc) approach or combined approach are preferred. Here we report a very typical case of maxillary mucocele who presented with subtle symptoms of nasal obstruction. The study was done in compliance with SCARE guidelines.[1].Case presentationWe present a very unique case of 24 years man with complaints of nasal obstruction and swelling over the right cheek for 2 years. He had a history of facial trauma two years back. Diagnosis was made on the basis of radiological examination CT (Computed Tomography) scan. He underwent enucleation via Cold well Luc's approach with good postoperative results.ConclusionMaxillary mucoceles are slow growing benign lesions. However, they are locally aggressive and cause bony destruction resulting into orbital and dental symptoms. Thus early recognistion with regular folllowr up and planning for surgical intervention can help avoid complications.

A rare case of benign vulvovaginal leiomyoma: Case report and literature review.

Project description:IntroductionSmooth muscle tumors of the vulva are more difficult to diagnose and are frequently mistaken as Bartholin cysts prior to surgery.Case presentationA 41-year-old female presented with a left vulvar mass that increased in size compared to the previous year. The patient had normal urination and a regular menstrual cycle. The presentation was not associated with dyspareunia, abnormal bleeding, and signs of infection (e.g., fever, vaginal discharge). The history of any sexually transmitted disease was inconclusive. There was also no family history of malignancy. Physical examination showed a solitary swelling mass, measuring 5 × 2 cm in the left labia majora at the site of the Bartholin gland. The mass was firm in consistency, partially movable, and non-tender with no inguinal lymphadenopathy. Histopathology after surgical removal revealed a benign vulvar leiomyoma.DiscussionLabia majora leiomyoma at the site of the Bartholin gland is rather uncommon. Some cases can develop into atypical leiomyoma or even leiomyosarcoma with local tissue infiltration.ConclusionIf the clinical picture is unusual, it is better to send the patient for ultrasound and MRI to exclude other causes followed by performing wide local surgical excision of the mass to allow proper histopathological and/or immunohistochemistry examination to differentiate between benign and malignant tumors.

Oculofaciocardiodental syndrome: a rare case and review of the literature.

Project description:Oculofaciocardiodental syndrome is a rare genetic disorder affecting ocular, facial, dental, and cardiac systems. The clinical diagnosis of oculofaciocardiodental syndrome can be challenging due to a wide variety of symptoms. Oculofaciocardiodental syndrome is found only in females due to its X-linked inheritance pattern and embryonic lethality for males. Radiculomegaly of canines is the most consistent finding in these patients. In this report we present a female patient with characteristic facial features, as well as a comprehensive overview of oculofaciocardiodental syndrome. Diagnosis of oculofaciocardiodental syndrome in this patient was verified by genetic analysis, during which we found a novel mutation in BCOR.

Robinow Syndrome: A Rare Case Report and Review of Literature.

Project description:Robinow syndrome is an extremely rare genetic disorder. Short-limbed dwarfism, abnormalities in the head, face, and external genitalia, as well as vertebral defects comprise its distinct features. This disorder exists in dominant and recessive patterns. Patients with the dominant pattern exhibit moderate symptoms. More physical characteristics and skeletal abnormalities characterize the recessive group. The syndrome is also known as Robinow-Silverman-Smith syndrome, Robinow dwarfism, fetal face, fetal face syndrome, fetal facies syndrome, acral dysostosis with facial and genital abnormalities, or mesomelic dwarfism-small genitalia syndrome. Covesdem syndrome was the name entitled for the recessive form previously. Munchmeyer's disease-a rare case report and review of literature.

Project description:Munchmeyer's disease is a rare variety of myositis ossificans. It is a significant clinical entity, diagnosing and understanding its pathophysiology can save a patient from spurious medical workups and anxiety of a suspected neoplasm. The number of authentic cases of this disease in the literature is small. The purpose of this article is to present a case of Munchmeyer's disease and review the literature for the same to date. The rare incidence, obscure aetiology, unknown definitive treatment plan and poor prognosis make this condition an enigma.

Extramedullary nasal plasmacytoma: Literature review and a rare case report.

Project description:INTRODUCTION: Extramedullary plasmacytoma is a plasma cell tumor that grows within any of the soft tissues of the organism. Similar to all plasmacytic dyscrasia, the disease is extremely rare. AIM: This study reports a case of an extramedullary plasmacytoma of the nasal cavity and provides a literature review on the topic. CASE REPORT: A 51-year-old woman presented at our tertiary university hospital with a 6-month history of progressive nasal obstruction, predominantly to the right side, and self-limiting epistaxis. Examination revealed a large pale-reddish tumor within the right nasal cavity. Anatomopathological analysis showed features consistent with a plasmacytoma diagnosis, which was subsequently confirmed by immunohistochemical techniques. Further assessment revealed the solitary nature of the condition, consistent with extramedullary plasmacytoma. Radiotherapy was initiated, which led to partial regression of the symptoms. The tumor was surgically removed by using a mid-facial degloving approach. The patient evolved with a naso-oral fistula and underwent 3 corrective surgeries. No evidence of associated systemic disease was found after 5 years of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: This case report, which describes a rare tumor of the nasal cavity, is expected to improve the recognition and referral of this condition by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists for multidisciplinary management and long-term follow-up.

Michelin Tire Baby Syndrome: A Rare Case with Review of Literature.

Project description:Michelin tire baby syndrome (MTBS) is a benign hamartomatous condition with ring-like lesions present on the limbs and trunk. MTBS is a rare genodermatosis. According to our search, only 20 cases have been reported. We present a case of a six-month-old female child, with complaints of fever and seizures. Since birth, she had asymptomatic multiple, asymmetric skin folds on all four limbs, resembling "Michelin Man" logo of the French tire manufacturer. She had microcephaly with characteristic round face hypertelorism, depressed nasal bridge, hypertrichosis with low set ears, a thin down-turned vermillion border of the upper lip, and a short neck. MRI was normal. Clinically, the diagnosis of MTBS was made. In addition, the parents were counseled about the self-limiting course of this disorder. MTBS itself might not be a single disorder but may manifest as a clinical finding associated with other disorders; therefore, a regular follow up of these patients is usually advised.

A rare case of breast squamous cell carcinoma and literature review

Project description:Introduction Breast Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is quite a rare tumour that the features portray squamous cell differentiation. Presentation of case We report a case of a 56-year-old female presented left breast lump that had been increasing in size for a 7 months duration associated with nipple retraction for one week. Ultrasound breast was done and revealed a large mixed echo density mass lesion in the left breast at 12 o'clock, 2cm from the nipple and measuring 4.2 × 3.4cm along with an enlarged node in the left axilla with thickened cortex and as for Mammogram revealed suspicious left breast lesion with enlarged axillary nodes, BIRADS 5. Histopathology from the left breast showed Invasive carcinoma with squamous differentiation, B5b, ER: negative, PR: Positive, Her2: Negative, CK5/6: Positive. Then a staging CECT Thorax, Abdomen and Pelvis was done which showed enhancing mass lesion seen at the left breast (4.1 × 4.3cm) with areas of necrosis within and multiple enlarged left axillary nodes seen with no local infiltration to the muscle or skin as well as no distant metastases. Patient underwent Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for 6 cycles and completed them. Discussion This case highlights the crucial need of early detection along with the obstacles faced in reaching an early diagnosis tagged with the lack of guideline to manage this patient. Conclusion In the management of Breast Squamous Cell Carcinoma, the standard treatment would be to go for mastectomy with axillary clearance. However, the prognosis usually depends on the tumour size and the advance age of the patient as described in this article. A Rare Case of Metastatic Primary Peritoneal Ependymoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Project description:Background:Primary peritoneal ependymoma is an exceedingly rare tumour with only four cases reported in the literature. It typically follows an indolent disease course. We describe a rare case of metastatic primary peritoneal ependymoma which was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy resulting in prolonged survival to date for 10 years. Case Presentation. The patient was a 23-year-old female on presentation. She presented with right upper quadrant pain associated with an abdominal mass. Computed tomography demonstrated a large mass displacing the liver. Debulking surgery was done revealing a tumour arising from the peritoneum as well as multiple metastatic pleural and peritoneal nodules. Pathology was consistent with primary peritoneal ependymoma. The patient was then treated with multiple lines of chemotherapy containing etoposide as the backbone. She also received palliative radiotherapy to the thoracic metastases with good and durable response. Conclusion:We reported a rare case of metastatic primary peritoneal ependymoma. Etoposide containing the chemotherapy regimen is effective in the treatment of peritoneal ependymoma. Radiotherapy is also effective for palliation of local symptoms with durable response.
