ABSTRACT: •Cash transfers, universal basic income, and guaranteed income have re-emerged as potential solutions to income volatility.•Methods used in Stockton's guaranteed income experiment, are testing how GI can exist alongside existing safety net benefits.•A multi-tiered approach to mitigating potential means tested benefits loss is both effective and ethically sound.
