Gram-negative bacteria release outer membrane vesicles into the external milieu to deliver effector molecules that alter the host and facilitate virulence. Vesicle formation is driven by phospholipid accumulation in the outer membrane and regulated by the phospholipid transporter VacJ/Yrb.
