Genome Sequences of Chikungunya Virus Isolates from Bolivia.

ABSTRACT: We generated nine coding-complete chikungunya virus genome sequences from blood samples collected during the early 2015 outbreak in Bolivia. Relative to other publicly available chikungunya sequences, the Bolivian samples represent a monophyletic group, suggesting that a single lineage was widely circulating in the country between February and May 2015.

Project description:We sequenced the genomes of two chikungunya virus isolates obtained from viremic patients who had traveled to Australia. The first patient acquired the infection in Bangladesh in 2017, and the second was infected in Thailand in 2019. Phylogenetic sequence analysis demonstrated that both isolates belonged to the East/Central/South African genotype.

Project description:BackgroundA comparative analysis of the genomic and replication profiles of different geographical chikungunya virus (CHIKV) isolates of the East, Central and South African (ECSA) lineage was performed.FindingsAnalysis of the data revealed the different growth kinetics for the different isolates. Deep genome sequencing analysis further revealed specific amino acid mutations in the viral nsP1, nsP3, nsP4, E1 and E2 proteins in the different isolates. Despite the difference in viral genomic profiles, the virus-induced ultrastructural changes within infected cells remained highly conserved among the different chikungunya virus isolates.ConclusionsThese findings provide insights into the genomic and replication profiles of the re-emerging chikungunya virus isolates of the ECSA lineage.

Project description:We report here the first complete nucleotide sequences of genomic RNAs of three Tomato aspermy virus (TAV) isolates in Japan. Analysis of these sequences showed that they have unique characteristics in RNAs 2 and 3. The Japanese isolates are similar to each other compared to other TAVs.

Project description:The coding-complete genome sequences of 22 chikungunya virus strains collected from the 2018-2019 outbreak in Thailand are reported. All sequences belong to the East/Central/South African (ECSA) genotype and contain two mutations, E1:K211E and E2:V264A, which were previously shown to be associated with increased viral infectivity, dissemination, and transmission in Aedes aegypti.
