Dataset on the relationship between psychosocial resources of volunteers and their quality of life.

ABSTRACT: This paper presents data examining the relationship between Professional Quality of Life (Compassion, Satisfaction, and Trauma), Sense of Community (Attachment, Social Bonds, and Satisfaction of Needs), Perceived Self- Efficacy in Voluntary Social and Health Care Organization, Perceived Collective Efficacy in Voluntary Social and Health Care Organization, Religious orientation (Extrinsic, Intrinsic, and Quest), and Perceived Social Support (Family, Friends, and Organization). The sample consists of 105 volunteers, who completed a questionnaire containing measures of construct investigated. Participants are all members of a Catholic organization that offers voluntary help to poor and vulnerable people. This community of volunteers is present throughout Italy with dozens of group homes, reception shelters for homeless people, soup kitchens, rehab centres, and open families hosting children, disabled people and elderly people in foster care. Participants, living in various Italian cities, were contacted by email and asked to complete an online questionnaire individually. All participants were informed that their responses would remain confidential. Sample demographics, descriptive statistics, and correlations among measures were provided.

Project description:Household food insecurity through influencing the quality and sufficiency of nutrition can have considerable effects on individuals' health. Previous studies have shown the relationship between household food insecurity and quality of life among adults, infants, and people of minority ethnicity. However, no studies have been conducted on household food insecurity and quality of life among pregnant women. This study aimed to investigate the effect of food insecurity on quality of life among pregnant women in Qazvin city, Iran.This cross-sectional study was conducted between May 2017 and November 2017 on 394 pregnant women. A random cluster sampling method was used to select eight urban health and medical centers from four geographical regions of Qazvin city, Iran. In the selected centers, pregnant women were recruited using eligibility inclusion criteria. Data was collected using the SF-36 Health-related Quality of Life, Household Food Insecurity Access Scale and a demographic questionnaire for recording the women's gestational and demographic information through interviews. Descriptive and inferential statistics including Chi-square test, one-way analysis of variance with Bonferroni post-hoc test and multiple linear regression were used for data analysis. P?<?0.05 was considered statistically significant.Food insecurity was reported in 43.9% of the pregnant women. Overall pregnant women's quality of life had the highest score (Mean?±?SD) in the domain of 'social performance' (76.4?±?21) and the lowest one in the domain of 'role limitation due to physical reasons' (60.5?±?43). Pregnant women with food insecurity had the lowest score in role limitation due to physical reasons domain of quality of life (68.6?±?40.4, 61.3?±?45.5 & 51.3?±?47.7 respectively for mild, moderate and sever food insecurity). The results of multiple linear regression showed that one unit reduction of household food security significantly decreased the total quality of life score by 5.2 score (95% CI: -9.7, -?0.7) among the mild food insecure group, 10.8 score (95% CI: -17.1, -?4.6) among the moderate food insecure group and 14.1 score (95% CI: -19.7, -?8.5) among the sever food insecure group.Screening of the household food security status during the primary prenatal care can identify high-risk pregnant women to improve the quantity and quality of their diet. Moreover multi-level actions including policy-making, supplying resources, and providing appropriate services are needed to ensure that pregnant women have access to high-quality foods.

Project description:BackgroundAnal disease has a significant impact on patients' quality of life (QoL), and surgical treatment may further diminish QoL. The purpose of this study was to conduct bibliometric analysis to investigate the profile of studies on anorectal disease-related QoL.MethodsThe database of Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) in Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was searched. The search terms were "anal diseases" and "quality of life". The bibliometrix package of R software was used to analyze the literature on anorectal diseases and QoL. The content of the analysis included the following: the number of papers published in this field by each country, the cooperation relationship between countries, the number of papers published by institutions, the cooperation relationship between institutions, the number of papers published by researchers, the cooperation relationship between researchers, the citations of researchers, the number of articles published in journals, and the use of keywords.ResultsA total of 1,130 related research literature records were retrieved in this study. An annually increasing trend was detected in the number of published papers and the number of citations. Developed countries in Europe and America, mainly the United States, the United Kingdom (UK), and Germany, were in a leading position in this field. The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Mayo Clinic in the United States, St. Mark's Hospital in the UK, and the University of Toronto in Canada were the leading research institutions in this field. The top 3 researchers with the most published papers were Feza H. Remzi, Bo Shen, and Victor W. Fazio. Collaboration among researchers was clustered. There were more high-quality related articles in professional journals of anal diseases. The use of keywords suggested a temporal change in research focus, but randomized controlled studies were found to be lacking.ConclusionsAsian countries should participate in more collaborative research projects in the field of anorectal disease, and more randomized controlled studies should be conducted overall.

Project description:Psychosocial resources may serve as an important link to explain socioeconomic differences in health. Earlier studies have demonstrated that education, income and occupational status cannot be used interchangeably as indicators of a hypothetical latent social dimension. In the same manner, it is important to disentangle the effect of measuring different constructs of psychosocial resources. The aim of this study was therefore to analyse if associations between socioeconomic status (SES) and psychosocial resources differ depending on the measures used. A cross-sectional population-based study of a random sample (n = 1007) of middle-aged individuals (45-69 years old, 50% women) in Sweden was performed using questionnaire and register data. SES was measured as education, occupation, household income and self-rated economy. Psychosocial resources were measured as social integration, social support, mastery, self-esteem, sense of coherence (SOC) and trust. Logistic regression models were applied to analyse the relationships controlling for the effects of possible confounders. The measures of SES were low or moderately correlated to each other as were the measures of psychosocial resources. After controlling for age, sex, country of birth and employment status, household income and self-rated economy were associated with all six psychosocial resources; occupation was associated with three (social integration, self-esteem and trust) and education with two (social integration and self-esteem). Social integration and self-esteem showed a significant and graded relationship with all SES measures; trust was associated with all SES measures except education, whereas SOC and mastery were only associated with household income and self-rated economy. After controlling for other SES measures, no associations with psychosocial resources remained for education or occupation. In conclusion, associations between SES and psychosocial resources did differ depending on the measures used. The findings illustrate the importance of the choice of measure when investigating SES as well as psychosocial resources.
