Microtremor datasets at liquefaction site of Petobo, Central Sulawesi-Indonesia.

ABSTRACT: The liquefaction at Petobo, Central Sulawesi affected at least 1.8 square kilometers, destroyed up to 744 houses, and caused more than 104 casualties. The data offered in this article are microtremor measurement datasets at the liquefaction site of Petobo, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The datasets were recorded using 3 component (3C) Guralp 6T-D broadband seismometer. There are 14 microtremor datasets, which consist of 10 datasets measured inside the liquefaction affected site and 4 datasets recorded outside the liquefaction affected site of Petobo, Central Sulawesi. Two to four datasets with 20 min length, were recorded at different times at each location. The microtremor data is crucial for horizontal to vertical (H/V) spectral ratio analysis, from which both the fundamental frequency and ellipticity curve at the measured site are deduced. The site fundamental frequency is useful for estimating the characteristics of the sub-surface condition at the measured site. The curve of the Rayleigh waves fundamental mode is needed to develop the shear wave (S-wave) velocity profile of the measured site.

Project description:In the last decade, reduction in adolescent fertility rates in Indonesia has slowed despite national programmes and policies focused on addressing child marriage. Indonesia currently has the highest number of births to adolescent girls aged 15-19 years in Southeast Asia. There is a need to develop a more nuanced understanding of the drivers of adolescent pregnancy in Indonesia to inform programmes and policies tailored to young people's needs and priorities. This study explored adolescent girls' pathways to pregnancy across two provinces (Central Sulawesi and West Java) in Indonesia. We conducted participatory timeline interviews with 79 girls aged 15-21 years from urban, peri-urban, and rural communities and inquired about their relationships and life experiences leading up to pregnancy. We conducted follow-up interviews with 19 selected participants to validate and clarify preliminary findings. We identified six pathways to adolescent pregnancy which were broadly differentiated by the timing of pregnancy relative to marriage. Three pregnancy pathways within marriage were further differentiated by the main motivation for marriage-financial reasons, protecting the girl and family's reputation, or to progress a romantic relationship. Three pregnancy pathways outside marriage were distinguished by the nature of the sexual relationship preceding pregnancy-consensual sex, unwanted or pressured sex, and forced sex. Drivers of adolescent pregnancy include the acceptability of child marriage and stigma surrounding premarital pregnancy, family and social expectations of pregnancy following marriage, harmful gender-based norms and violence, and lack of sexual and reproductive health information and access to services. Adolescents follow varied pathways to pregnancy in Indonesia. The idealisation and acceptance of child marriage is both a catalyst and outcome of adolescent pregnancy, which is occurring amid stigma surrounding premarital sex and pregnancy, harmful gender-based norms and violence, and barriers to contraceptive access and use. Our findings emphasise that there are many drivers of adolescent pregnancy and different pathways will require intervention approaches that address child marriage alongside other key contributors.

Project description:Jun Aoyama, Sam Wouthuyzen, Michael J. Miller, Hagi Y. Sugeha, Mari Kuroki, Shun Watanabe, Augy Syahailatua, Fadly Y. Tantu, Seishi Hagihara, Triyanto, Tsuguo Otake, and Katsumi Tsukamoto (2018) Sulawesi Island of north-central Indonesia is located in a region where at least 6 species of tropical anguillid eels are present, but the reproductive ecology and biodiversity of these eels in each area of the Indonesian archipelago remains poorly understood. Some information about these species was obtained from collections of their leptocephalus larvae made during several times of the year and from year-round collections of their recruitment-stage glass eels at a few locations. A sampling survey of anguillid leptocephali was conducted in March 2010 in both the Celebes Sea and Tomini Bay of Sulawesi Island to learn about the biodiversity and reproductive ecology of the eels in the region. Twenty-eight anguillid leptocephali were collected at 13 different stations, with genetic identification indicating that 3 species of eels had spawned in the two areas. Larvae were more abundant in the Celebes Sea (N = 21; 16.0-52.1 mm TL) than in Tomini Bay (N = 7; 9.6-54.8 mm). The abundant 16-21 mm size-class of Anguilla bornensis in the Celebes Sea indicated that species had recently spawned there, and spawning had also occurred in Tomini Bay by A. celebesensis (17.4 mm). These data and previous life history information suggest that A. celebesensis may have two spawning seasons in the Celebes Sea, but only one main spawning season in Tomini Bay. Anguilla borneensis may spawn at several times of the year in the Celebes Sea. Anguilla marmorata and A. biocolor pacifica spawn outside the Indonesian Seas, with A. marmorata recruiting in large numbers in the Sulawesi Island region during much of the year. Other spawning locations of A. celebesensis and A. interioris likely exist in Indonesian waters. Therefore, further research is needed to understand the reproductive ecologies and biodiversity of the tropical anguillid eels in each region of Indonesia in relation to geographic and climatic factors.
