<i>Vibrio cholerae</i> is a human pathogen, which is transmitted by the consumption of contaminated food or water. <i>V. cholerae</i> strains belonging to the serogroups O1 and O139 can cause cholera outbreaks and epidemics, a severe life-threatening diarrheal disease.
