Pneumococcal cell surface-exposed choline-binding proteins (CBPs) play pivotal roles in multiple infectious processes with pneumococci. Intracellular pneumococci can be recognized at multiple steps during bactericidal autophagy. However, whether CBPs are involved in pneumococci-induced autophagic processes remains unknown.
