The Development of Chinese Assessment and Evaluation of Physical Literacy (CAEPL): A Study Using Delphi Method.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to introduce the development of the Chinese Assessment and Evaluation of Physical Literacy (CAEPL), to present the theoretical model of the CAEPL, and to quantify the weight of each domain of the CAEPL. 34 experts took part in the Delphi survey, and 23 experts completed all the three rounds of the survey. Experts' opinions are used to develop the theoretical model of the CAEPL. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was employed for determining the weights of subdomains and items of the CAEPL. The CAEPL is a comprehensive model, including intention of physical activity (IPA), knowledge of physical activity (KPA), motor/sport skill (MSS), behavior of physical activity (BPA) and physical fitness (PF). Specific weights of IPA, KPA, MSS, BPA and PF are 17.25%, 16.23%, 27.01%, 23.72% and 15.79%, respectively. The CAEPL provides an important and useful instrument to measure and improve physical literacy (PL) among young Chinese people. Studies on the feasibility, reliability, validity and sensitivity of the CAEPL should be conducted to improve it in the future.

Project description:BackgroundIncreasing women's health literacy is the key to preventing cervical cancer, and various tools have been developed to assess women's cancer health literacy. However, many of these tools come from other countries and have not been adapted to Chinese requirements. Furthermore, a system for evaluating cervical cancer health literacy among Chinese women has not been developed. Therefore, we sought to establish an evaluation index system for cervical cancer health literacy among Chinese women and to provide an effective evaluation tool for tertiary prevention of cervical cancer in China.MethodsWe invited 20 recognized experts to participate in two rounds of Delphi expert consultation, and the modified Delphi process with percentage weighting and multiplication was used. A literature review identified 67 potential indicators. Subsequent discussions within our research team led to the retention of 48 indicators following a rigorous screening process. On this basis, two rounds of Delphi expert consultation were conducted to rate and screen the indexes. Percentage weighting and multiplication were used to determine index weights.ResultsTwenty experts participated in the first-round Delphi consultations (95.23% recovery rate). In the second-round Delphi consultations, 20 questionnaires were returned (100%), and the expert authority coefficient was 0.93 ± 0.02. After both rounds of Delphi consultation, 4 first-level indicators, 9 second-level indicators, and 32 third-level indicators were identified for cervical cancer literacy among Chinese women. On a five-point scale, importance ratings ranged from 3.76 to 4.95 points, with variation coefficients ranging from 0.06 to 0.25, while sensitivity ratings ranged from 3.71 to 4.83 points, with variation coefficients ranging from 0.08 to 0.24. Across both rounds, Kendall's W coefficients ranged from 0.168 to 0.248. The weights of first-level indicators of basic knowledge and attitudes about cervical cancer, primary prevention of cervical cancer literacy, secondary prevention of cervical cancer literacy, and tertiary prevention of cervical cancer literacy were 0.257, 0.249, 0.251, and 0.243, respectively.ConclusionsWe have developed the first tertiary prevention-based, comprehensive evaluation index system for cervical cancer literacy among Chinese women, which will provide theoretical support for cervical cancer prevention and health education programs.

Project description:IntroductionTotal Laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH) requires an advanced level of operative skills and training. The aim of this study was to develop an objective scale specific for the assessment of technical skills for LH (H-OSATS) and to demonstrate feasibility of use and validity in a virtual reality setting.Material and methodsThe scale was developed using a hierarchical task analysis and a panel of international experts. A Delphi method obtained consensus among experts on relevant steps that should be included into the H-OSATS scale for assessment of operative performances. Feasibility of use and validity of the scale were evaluated by reviewing video recordings of LH performed on a virtual reality laparoscopic simulator. Three groups of operators of different levels of experience were assessed in a Marseille teaching hospital (10 novices, 8 intermediates and 8 experienced surgeons). Correlations with scores obtained using a recognised generic global rating tool (OSATS) were calculated.ResultsA total of 76 discrete steps were identified by the hierarchical task analysis. 14 experts completed the two rounds of the Delphi questionnaire. 64 steps reached consensus and were integrated in the scale. During the validation process, median time to rate each video recording was 25 minutes. There was a significant difference between the novice, intermediate and experienced group for total H-OSATS scores (133, 155.9 and 178.25 respectively; p = 0.002). H-OSATS scale demonstrated high inter-rater reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC] = 0.930; p<0.001) and test retest reliability (ICC = 0.877; p<0.001). High correlations were found between total H-OSATS scores and OSATS scores (rho = 0.928; p<0.001).ConclusionThe H-OSATS scale displayed evidence of validity for assessment of technical performances for LH performed on a virtual reality simulator. The implementation of this scale is expected to facilitate deliberate practice. Next steps should focus on evaluating the validity of the scale in the operating room.

Project description:Objective:To develop the medication literacy scale for patients with hypertension, and to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods:The initial draft of the scale was formulated based on the operationalization of medication literacy with four core elements of knowledge, attitude, skill, and practice, and was developed through procedures of literature review, interviews to hypertensive patients, and research group discussion. Expert panel meeting, interviews, and pre-test on the initial draft of the scale to 10 hypertensive patients, as well as a two iterations of expert feedback were used to form a primary medication literacy scale for pilot investigation and item selection. In this study, 260 patients with hypertension in Changsha city of China were purposively selected to conduct a pilot survey using the primary medication literacy scale. After item selection by a series of statistical analysis method and item re-wording according to patients' feedback, the scale was revised to form a formal investigation scale with four domains and 37 items. A formal investigation was carried out on 650 patients with hypertension selected purposively in a tertiary general hospital and two community health service centers in Changsha city of China. The reliability and validity of the scale were analyzed. Results:Finally, the formal scale consists of four domains on knowledge, attitude, practice and skills, 11 sub-factors and 37 items in total. The scale-level content validity index (S-CVI/Ave) of this scale was 0.968, and the I-CVI for each item ranged from 0.833 to 1.000, indicating a good and acceptable content and face validity. The Cronbach's ? coefficient was 0.849 for the overall scale and ranged from 0.744 to 0.783 for domains. The Pearson's correlation coefficients between domains and the total scale were ranging from 0.530 to 0.799. Besides, the Pearson's correlation coefficient among domains of the scale ranged from 0.157 to 0.439. The Spearman-Brown split-half reliability coefficient was 0.893 for the total scale and ranged from 0.793 to 0.872 for domains. The test-retest reliability coefficient of the total scale was 0.968 and ranged from 0.880 to 0.959 for domains. Four domains of knowledge, attitude, skill, and practice were identified through the exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis from each domain. The total explained variation of domains for the overall scale was 51.420%. Eleven sub-factors for domains were extracted through respective exploratory factor analysis from each domain, and the total explained variation of sub-factors for its belonging domain were ranging from 56.111 to 64.419%. The confirmatory factor analysis showed the fit indices of the four-domain model were as follows (?2/df=2.629, GFI=0.804, AGFI=0.777, RMR=0.012, IFI=0.746, RMSEA=0.066, PNFI=0.599, PCFI=0.689), which indicated an acceptable model fit. Conclusions:The medication literacy scale for hypertensive patients has good reliability and acceptable validity, which is suitable and acceptable for evaluating the medication literacy level of hypertension patients in China. In the future, further construct and model fit validation and English translation with appropriate adaptation of this whole scale are required, so that this scale can be further validated and applied worldwide.
