Content Validation through Expert Judgement of an Instrument on the Nutritional Knowledge, Beliefs, and Habits of Pregnant Women.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to conduct content validation through expert judgement of an instrument which explores the nutritional knowledge, beliefs, and habits during pregnancy. This is a psychometric study in which 14 experts participated in the evaluation of each of the questionnaire items, which were divided into two blocks according to the characteristics of sufficiency, clarity, coherence, and relevance. Fleiss' ? statistic was used to measure strength of agreement. A pre-test with 102 participants was conducted to measure the degree of understandability of the instrument. The strength of agreement obtained for each of the dimensions was almost perfect. For each pair of experts, strength of agreement ranged between substantial and almost perfect. Sufficiency was the characteristic of the questionnaire that obtained the highest values in the two blocks, and was also the most statistically significant (p < 0.001). Coherence was the most statistically significant characteristic in the first block (p = 0.030). Clarity was the most statistically significant characteristic in the second block (p = 0.037). The wording of five of the twenty original items was corrected. The new version of the instrument attained a high degree of understandability. The results suggest that the instrument is valid and may therefore be applied.

Project description:Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a tool to assess physical therapists' knowledge, skills, and judgement in performing airway suctioning with intubated and non-intubated adults. Method: A modified Delphi methodology was used to develop the tool and to evaluate its sensibility (i.e., common-sense nature). Participants were experienced cardiorespiratory physical therapists who perform airway suctioning and physical therapists employed in academic positions related to cardiorespiratory physical therapy at Canadian universities. Round 1 focused on refining which items to include in the tool, Round 2 focused on finalizing the items, and Round 3 focused on evaluating a preliminary version of the tool. Results: A total of 34 individuals participated in Round 1, 30 participated in Round 2, and 25 participated in Round 3. A literature review identified 11 relevant domains and 69 supporting competencies. In Round 1, consensus was achieved for all domains; however, it was borderline for the professionalism domain. Multiple participants suggested that it was redundant because it is a global requirement for all physical therapists. Consensus was also achieved for 64 of the 69 supporting competencies; however, it was borderline for 5 of these items, and 5 achieved no consensus. In Round 2, participants rated a series of recommendations related to items requiring further consideration, as well as 9 new items suggested by the participants in Round 1. In Round 3, the preliminary tool was found to be globally sensible, but concerns were expressed about the inclusion of redundant factors and the tool's length. The tool was revised, resulting in a tool with 4 domains, 6 sub-domains and 43 supporting competencies, as well as an item rating the individual's overall performance. Conclusions: The final-round sensibility questionnaire provided preliminary evidence of the tool's face and content validity. We will investigate the tool's measurement properties in a future study.

Project description:Background: There is no validated tool to assess patients' knowledge of oral anticoagulant therapy in atrial fibrillation in China. Methods: Using a standard translation program, the Jessa Atrial fibrillation Knowledge Questionnaire (JAKQ) was translated into Chinese. The reliability of the JAKQ was assessed by internal consistency (Cronbach's α coefficient), repeatability (test-retest reliability), and sensitivity tests. Effectiveness was assessed by hypothesizing that a lower JAKQ score was a risk factor for bleeding. A total of 447 patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who were hospitalized between July 2019 and December 2021 were studied and followed up. Participants were followed up 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after enrollment. Bleeding during follow-up was recorded. Data were obtained from hospital databases and telephone follow-up. Result: A total of 447 patients with AF completed JAKQ. The mean age of patients was 67.7 ± 10.2 years. The median JAKQ score was 31.3% (12.5-43.8). The Cronbach's α coefficient of JAKQ was 0.616-0.637, and the test-retest reliability value was 0.902 (p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that the higher knowledge level of AF was associated with secondary education or above, an income of more than 2000 yuan, and a history of AF of more than 1 year. Bleeding was associated with a lower JAKQ score, hypertension, and a history of bleeding. Non-bleeding patients on VKA had a better understanding of how often INR should be monitored and what to do if an OAC dose was missed. Conclusion: The Chinese version of JAKQ shows good reliability and validity, indicating that it is a valuable tool for AF and oral anticoagulation (OAC) knowledge assessment. It can be used in clinical practice to guide educational activities and improve the effectiveness and safety of treatment. It was shown that Chinese patients with AF have insufficient knowledge about AF and OAC. Lower JAKQ scores are associated with bleeding, so targeted education is necessary. Targeted educational efforts should focus on patients recently diagnosed with AF and those with lower formal education and income.
