It is critical for the neuronal cell cycle to remain suppressed in terminally differentiated neurons as its activation results in aberrant cell cycle re-entry that causes neuronal apoptosis (CRNA), which has been observed in several neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's disease (AD).
