The Central Asia Outbreak (CAO) clade is a growing public health problem for Central Asian countries. Members of the clade belong to the narrow branch of the <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i> Beijing genotype and are characterized by multidrug resistance and increased transmissibility.
