ABSTRACT: Highlights•The world health organization (WHO) guidelines needs to be empirically examined.•The study sought to look at the recommended and non-recommended behaviors.•The results of the study show that psychological distress was negatively associated with recommended behaviors and positively with non-recommended behaviors.
