In Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, ketocarotenoid biosynthesis is limited to the diploid zygospore stage. In this study, we attempted to engineer the ketocarotenoid pathway into Chlamydomonas haploid vegetative green cells by overexpressing the key enzyme ß-carotene ketolase (CrBKT).
