<i>Miscanthus</i> is a perennial grass with potential for lignocellulosic ethanol production. To ensure its utility for this purpose, breeding efforts should focus on increasing genetic diversity of the nothospecies <i>Miscanthus</i> × <i>giganteus</i> (M×g) beyond the single clone used in many programs.
