ABSTRACT: In this announcement, we present the complete genome sequence of Bifidobacterium adolescentis strain ZJ2, which was isolated from a female centenarian in Anhui, China. The final genome consists of a 2,401,766-bp chromosome with a G+C content of 59.90%.

Project description:Here, we present the complete genome sequence of a Bifidobacterium longum isolate, that of strain ZJ1, and this strain showed a cholesterol degradation ability that is greater than that of five strains we chose for comparison (Bifidobacterium longum 536, B. infantis 1912, B. longum 1941, B. breve ATCC 15698, B. infantis ATCC 17930). The draft genome of strain ZJ1 consists of 2,414,672 bp, with 2,042 protein-coding genes, 69 noncoding RNA genes, and 60.16% G+C content.

Project description:Bifidobacterium adolescentis 4-2 was isolated from healthy human feces. Here, we report a draft genome sequence of this bacterium, which may clarify the functionality of gut microbiota-brain communication. The draft genome comprises 2.39 Mb, with an average G+C content of 59.2% and 2,028 coding DNA sequences. An operon for gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) biosynthesis was observed in the draft genome.

Complete genome sequence of Bifidobacterium adolescentis P2P3, a human gut bacterium possessing strong resistant starch-degrading activity.

Project description:Resistant starch (RS) is an important food source from which gut bacteria produce short chain fatty acids, which have beneficial effects for human health. The Bifidobacterium adolescentis P2P3, a human gut bacterium possessing a strong RS-degrading activity, was isolated from a healthy Korean adult male. In vitro experiments showed that this bacterium could utilize approximately 63% of high amylose corn starch after forming RS granule clusters. Here we provide the first complete set of genomic information on RS-degrading B. adolescentis P2P3. The genome of B. adolescentis P2P3 consists of one chromosome (2,202,982 bp) with high GC content (59.4%). Analysis of the protein-coding genes revealed that at least nineteen of the starch degradation-related enzymes were present in the genome. Among those, five genes evidently possess carbohydrate-binding domains, which are presumed to be involved in efficient RS decomposition. The complete set of genomic information on B. adolescentis P2P3 could provide an understanding of the role of RS-degrading gut bacteria and its RS degradation mechanism.
