Draft Genome Sequences of Novel Campylobacter Species Isolated from Nonhuman Primates.

ABSTRACT: Campylobacter species are being increasingly isolated and associated with disease in humans and animals. Here, we describe four draft genome sequences of Campylobacter species from nonhuman primates. These include Campylobacter troglodytis, isolated from wild chimpanzees, and two likely new Campylobacter species isolated from a lemur, common marmoset, and cotton-top tamarin.

Project description:Four wild-type Campylobacter jejuni strains isolated from the cecal contents of broiler chickens were sequenced. The average genome size was 1,622,170 bp, with 1,667 to 1,761 coding sequences and 47 to 51 RNAs. Multiple genes encoding motility, intestinal colonization, toxin production, stress tolerance, and multidrug resistance were present in all the strains.

Project description:Draft genomes of five Campylobacter isolates recovered from New Zealand brushtail possums are described. Genome sizes ranged from 1.591 Mbp to 1.594 Mbp, with G+C contents of 29.9% to 29.95%. Comparison to Australian Campylobacter 16S rRNA gene sequences suggests that the species may be common to possums.

Draft Genome Sequences of Two Pathogenic Corynebacterial Species Isolated from Cows.

Project description:The species Corynebacterium renale, Corynebacterium pilosum, and Corynebacterium cystitidis were initially thought to be the same species C. renale, but with different immunological types. These bacteria are the causative agent of cystitis, urethritis and pyelonephritis and are found usually as constituents of the normal flora in the lower urogenital tract of cattle. Therefore, we present the draft genome sequences of two pathogenic Corynebacterium species: C. renale CIP 52.96 and C. pilosum CIP 103422. The genome sequences of these species have 2,322,762 bp with 2,218 protein encoding genes and 2,548,014 bp with 2,428 protein encoding genes, respectively. These genomes can help clarify the virulence mechanisms of these unknown bacteria and enable the development of more effective methods for control.

Draft genome sequences of three NDM-1-producing Enterobacteriaceae species isolated from Brazil.

Project description:The emergence of multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae strains producing carbapenemases, such as NDM-1, has become a major public health issue due to a high dissemination capacity and limited treatment options. Here we describe the draft genome of three NDM-1-producing isolates: Providencia rettgeri (CCBH11880), Enterobacter hormaechei subsp. oharae (CCBH10892) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (CCBH13327), isolated in Brazil. Besides blaNDM-1, resistance genes to aminoglycosides [aadA1, aadA2, aac(6')-Ib-cr] and quinolones (qnrA1, qnrB4) were observed which contributed to the multidrug resistance profile. The element ISAba125 was found associated to the blaNDM-1 gene in all strains.
