During endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD), the cytoplasmic enzyme <i>N</i>-glycanase 1 (NGLY1) is proposed to remove <i>N</i>-glycans from misfolded <i>N</i>-glycoproteins after their retrotranslocation from the ER to the cytosol.
