Bumble bees are ecologically and economically important insect pollinators. Three abundant and widespread species in western North America, <i>Bombus bifarius</i>, <i>Bombus vancouverensis</i>, and <i>Bombus vosnesenskii</i>, have been the focus of substantial research relating to diverse aspects of bumble bee ecology and evolutionary biology.
