Response dataset from canine extramedullary plasmacytoma treated with lipophobic drugs enhanced by electroporation.

ABSTRACT: Over the past 15 years, lipophobic drugs, such as bleomycin and cisplatin, have been used combined with electroporation, which promotes their uptake through the cell membrane. The present data describe general findings following electrochemotherapy and how plasmacytomas can respond to this technique. We will explain and illustrate specific outcomes during the remission process. The data presented here can be useful for researchers, veterinarians, and pet owners. Furthermore, the data could be useful for other cutaneous or oral tumors in which electrochemotherapy may be indicated. Interpretation of the data and outcomes may be found in the research article entitled "Outcome following curative-intent electrochemotherapy for extramedullary plasmocytoma in dogs - case reports ."

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the larynx.

Project description:INTRODUCTION: The extramedullary plasmocytoma is one of the localized forms of malignancy of the plasma cells, which has multiple myeloma main diagnosis. Its main site to the head and neck, but with a rare presentation in the larynx. OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of extramedullary plasmocytoma of the larynx, with literature review. CASE REPORT: Patient female, 49, referring to intermittent dysphonia for 01 years with progressive worsening associated with vocal fatigue and vocal effort, with reddish lesion, smooth edges fold left ventricular endoscopy. Being subjected to excisional biopsy diagnosed with extramedullary histopathological plasmocytoma. CONCLUSION: Extramedullary Plasmocytoma must be considered in the differential diagnosis of rare tumors of the larynx. It is essential after the diagnosis of multiple myeloma research and a "follow up" appropriate.

Solitary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Cricoid Cartilage-Case Report.

Project description:Solitary plasmacytoma (SP) is an extremely rare form of hematologic malignancy that can be classified as solitary bone plasmacytoma or solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma. Here, we report a patient who presented with progressive shortness of breath and foreign body sensation in his throat. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG-PET/CT) demonstrated an abnormal FDG-avid soft tissue mass arising from the larynx involving the cricoid cartilage without additional suspicious lesions. Histology revealed an abundance of plasma cells; immunohistochemistry was positive for CD138 expression and lambda chains, and negative for CD20. Comprehensive imaging studies and panendoscopy of the ENT tract confirmed solitary disease involvement. Following additional systemic work-up, a diagnosis of extramedullary plasmacytoma was rendered. The patient underwent definitive radiotherapy using intensity-modulated radiation therapy (total dose of 46?Gy, divided in 23 fractions of 200?cGy). Serial PET/CT showed the stepwise resolution of abnormal FDG uptake and resolution of the cricoid cartilage lesion. With 22?months of follow-up, the patient remains free of disease. We describe the rare case of SP presenting as a FDG-avid hypermetabolic soft tissue mass in the cricoid cartilage, which should be considered in the differential diagnosis of laryngeal tumors. Of note, SP is radiosensitive; favorable outcome can be expected once treated with doses of 40-50?Gy. FDG PET/CT is helpful in diagnosis and response assessment for this disease.

Refractory primary extramedullary plasmacytoma in kidney: a case report.

Project description:Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell neoplasm, with the majority (80-90% of cases) occurring in the upper aerodigestive tract. To our best knowledge, primary EMP from renal tissues is extremely rare. Herein, the diagnosis and treatment of a refractory primary EMP with renal involvement in a 53-year-old male patient is reported. The patient received radical nephrectomy followed by radiotherapy, and showed relapse 3 months after treatment. The cancer cells were sensitive to subsequent chemotherapy, however, the patient died of infection associated with the disease after almost 3.5 years following first presentation.

Relapsed multiple myeloma manifesting as extramedullary plasmacytoma of the breast: Imaging findings.

Project description:Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the breast (EPB), a manifestation of multiple myeloma (MM), is very rare. It is important to recognize the imaging findings of EPB because it may be the first manifestation of relapsed MM. An 85-year-old woman presented with a lump in her right breast 4 years after the complete remission of MM. She underwent mammography and ultrasonography, which showed an oval circumscribed mass and an irregular circumscribed heterogeneous solid mass, respectively. Following ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy, this lesion was confirmed to be EPB. Whole-body computed tomography showed multiple new osteolytic lesions and other multiple extramedullary lesions in addition to EPB in the right breast. The final diagnosis was relapsed MM with multiple extramedullary plasmacytoma.

Multiple primary cutaneous plasmacytoma a decade after a nasal solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma: a puzzling case.

The diagnosis relies on clinical, histological, and immunochemical findings, without underlying evidence of multiple myeloma. Abscopal effect in a patient with solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma of the thyroid: case report.

Project description:BackgroundThe abscopal effect is a systemic antitumor response that occurs distant to the irradiation site and is induced by local irradiation. We herein describe a case of solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP) of the thyroid in which bone metastases disappeared after thyroidectomy and cervical radiotherapy (RT).Case descriptionA 68-year-old man with a right cervical swelling for approximately 10 years visited a hospital with left elbow pain that persisted for 5 months. He was referred to our hospital for more detailed examinations and treatment. An immobile mass of approximately 10 cm in diameter was palpable on the right side of the patient's neck. Computed tomography (CT) showed osteolytic changes in the left humerus and right scapula, and a tumor in the right lobe of the thyroid gland. The patient was diagnosed with widely invasive follicular carcinoma and multiple bone metastases and underwent total thyroidectomy. During surgery, tumor infiltration into the trachea was observed. Shaving between the tumor and trachea was performed. Based on the results of a pathological examination, the patient was diagnosed with primary extramedullary plasmacytoma of the thyroid. After surgery, external beam RT was performed on the neck, which also reduced the pain in the left elbow. Positron emission tomography (PET)-CT showed the decreased accumulation of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in the left humerus and right scapula, and the amelioration of osteolytic changes on CT.ConclusionsSEP of the thyroid is rare, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report in which the abscopal effect was observed after thyroidectomy and cervical RT.

Survival trends and prognostic factors for patients with extramedullary plasmacytoma: A population-based study

Project description:Background Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a localized plasma cell neoplasm that originates from tissues other than bone. The survival trends and prognostic factors of patients with EMP in recent years remain unreported. Methods We used the SEER databases to extract the data. Survival curves were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and a nomogram was created based on the Cox’s proportional hazards model. Results A total of 1676 cases of EMP were identified. Patients in period-2 (2008-2016) show similar survival (p=0.8624) to those in period-1(1975-2007). Age, gender, race, and sites were prognostic of patient outcomes. And the use of surgery was associated with improved survival. The patients were randomly assigned to the training cohort and the validation cohort in a ratio of 2:1. Four factors including age, gender, race, and sites were identified to be independently predictive of the overall survival of patients with EMP. A prognostic model (EMP prognostic index, EMP-PI) comprising these four factors was constructed. Within the training cohort, three risk groups displayed significantly different 10-year survival rates: low-risk (73.0%, [95%CI 66.9-78.2]), intermediate-risk (39.3%, [95%CI 34.3-44.3]), and high-risk (22.6%, [95%CI 15.3-30.9]) (p<0.0001). Three risk groups were confirmed in the internal validation cohort. We also constructed a 5-factor nomogram based on multivariate logistic analyses. Conclusion The survival of patients with EMP did not improve in recent years. The EMP-PI will facilitate the risk stratification and guide the risk-adapted therapy in patients with EMP.

Extramedullary nasal plasmacytoma: Literature review and a rare case report.

Project description:INTRODUCTION: Extramedullary plasmacytoma is a plasma cell tumor that grows within any of the soft tissues of the organism. Similar to all plasmacytic dyscrasia, the disease is extremely rare. AIM: This study reports a case of an extramedullary plasmacytoma of the nasal cavity and provides a literature review on the topic. CASE REPORT: A 51-year-old woman presented at our tertiary university hospital with a 6-month history of progressive nasal obstruction, predominantly to the right side, and self-limiting epistaxis. Examination revealed a large pale-reddish tumor within the right nasal cavity. Anatomopathological analysis showed features consistent with a plasmacytoma diagnosis, which was subsequently confirmed by immunohistochemical techniques. Further assessment revealed the solitary nature of the condition, consistent with extramedullary plasmacytoma. Radiotherapy was initiated, which led to partial regression of the symptoms. The tumor was surgically removed by using a mid-facial degloving approach. The patient evolved with a naso-oral fistula and underwent 3 corrective surgeries. No evidence of associated systemic disease was found after 5 years of follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: This case report, which describes a rare tumor of the nasal cavity, is expected to improve the recognition and referral of this condition by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists for multidisciplinary management and long-term follow-up.
