Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) catalyzes the first, rate-limiting step of the so-called "kynurenine pathway", which converts the essential amino acid <i>L-</i>tryptophan (Trp) into the immunosuppressive metabolite <i>L-</i>kynurenine (Kyn).
