Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major health problem associated with obesity and other features of the metabolic syndrome including insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. The accumulation of lipids in hepatocytes causes liver damage and triggers inflammation, fibrosis, and cirrhosis.
