Signaling through stimulator of interferon genes (STING) leads to the production of type I interferons (IFN-Is) and inflammatory cytokines. A gain-of-function mutation in STING was identified in an autoinflammatory disease (STING-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy; SAVI).
