RAP3DF - One shoot 3D face dataset.

ABSTRACT: Develop researches in the 3D biometrics field requires a large set of images, whether for training the algorithms or during the recognition test. Several datasets can be found in the literature. In an analysis of these datasets it was observed that a single dataset does not have the types of infrared images, visible and three-dimensional light, for the same sample. Given this context, the present work conceived this 3D facial dataset, with its respective visible light image and infrared spectrum, providing the entire image acquisition process from the Kinect One device. The work consists of 267 samples from 64 volunteers, where each volunteer has a frontal facial image and 3 images in arbitrary positions.

KomNET: Face Image Dataset from Various Media for Face Recognition.

Project description:KomNet is a face image dataset originated from three media sources which can be used to recognize faces. KomNET contains face images which were collected from three different media sources, i.e. mobile phone camera, digital camera, and media social. The collected face dataset was frontal face image or facing the camera. The face dataset originated from the three media were collected without certain conditions such as lighting, background, haircut, mustache and beard, head cover, glasses, and differences of expression. KomNet dataset were collected from 50 clusters in which each of them consisted of 24 face images. To increase the number of training data, the face images were propagated with augmentation image technique, in which ten augmentations were used such as Rotate, Flip, Gaussian Blur, Gamma Contrast, Sigmoid Contrast, Sharpen, Emboss, Histogram Equalization, Hue and Saturation, Average Blur so the face images became 240 face images per cluster. 3DSEM: A 3D microscopy dataset.

Project description:The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) as a 2D imaging instrument has been widely used in many scientific disciplines including biological, mechanical, and materials sciences to determine the surface attributes of microscopic objects. However the SEM micrographs still remain 2D images. To effectively measure and visualize the surface properties, we need to truly restore the 3D shape model from 2D SEM images. Having 3D surfaces would provide anatomic shape of micro-samples which allows for quantitative measurements and informative visualization of the specimens being investigated. The 3DSEM is a dataset for 3D microscopy vision which is freely available at [1] for any academic, educational, and research purposes. The dataset includes both 2D images and 3D reconstructed surfaces of several real microscopic samples.

Face mask wearing image dataset: A comprehensive benchmark for image-based face mask detection models.

Project description:The Face Mask Wearing Image Dataset is a comprehensive collection of images aimed at facilitating research in the domain of face mask detection and classification. This dataset consists of 24,916 images, carefully categorized into two main folders: "Correct" and "Incorrect" representing instances of face masks being worn properly and improperly, respectively. Each folder is further divided into four subfolders, each denoting a specific type of face mask - Bandana, Cotton, N95, and Surgical. In the "Correct" folder, images depict individuals correctly wearing their respective face masks, while the "Incorrect" folder contains images of improper face mask usage. To capture variations in face mask application across different demographics, such as age and gender, each subfolder also includes three additional subfolders - Child, Male, and Female. The dataset's diverse content encompasses different face mask types, covering bandana-style, cloth, N95 respirators, and surgical masks, across various age groups and genders. Pgu-Face: A dataset of partially covered facial images.

Project description:In this article we introduce a human face image dataset. Images were taken in close to real-world conditions using several cameras, often mobile phone׳s cameras. The dataset contains 224 subjects imaged under four different figures (a nearly clean-shaven countenance, a nearly clean-shaven countenance with sunglasses, an unshaven or stubble face countenance, an unshaven or stubble face countenance with sunglasses) in up to two recording sessions. Existence of partially covered face images in this dataset could reveal the robustness and efficiency of several facial image processing algorithms. In this work we present the dataset and explain the recording method.

Project description:This data article presents a data set comprised of 36 synthetic 3D equiaxed polycrystalline microstructures, the microstructural descriptors for each grain, and the stress and strain fields resulting from crystal plasticity simulations mimicking uniaxial tensile deformation to a total strain of 4%. This is related to the research article entitled "Applied Machine Learning to predict stress hotspots I: Face Centered Cubic Materials" (Mangal and Holm, 2018) [1]. The microstructures were created using an open source Dream.3D software tool, and the crystal plasticity simulations were carried out using the elasto-viscoplastic fast Fourier transform (EVPFFT) method. Six different kinds of FCC textures are represented with six stochastically different microstructures with varying texture intensity for each texture kind. Inequality-Constrained and Robust 3D Face Model Fitting.

Project description:Fitting 3D morphable models (3DMMs) on faces is a well-studied problem, motivated by various industrial and research applications. 3DMMs express a 3D facial shape as a linear sum of basis functions. The resulting shape, however, is a plausible face only when the basis coefficients take values within limited intervals. Methods based on unconstrained optimization address this issue with a weighted ℓ 2 penalty on coefficients; however, determining the weight of this penalty is difficult, and the existence of a single weight that works universally is questionable. We propose a new formulation that does not require the tuning of any weight parameter. Specifically, we formulate 3DMM fitting as an inequality-constrained optimization problem, where the primary constraint is that basis coefficients should not exceed the interval that is learned when the 3DMM is constructed. We employ additional constraints to exploit sparse landmark detectors, by forcing the facial shape to be within the error bounds of a reliable detector. To enable operation "in-the-wild", we use a robust objective function, namely Gradient Correlation. Our approach performs comparably with deep learning (DL) methods on "in-the-wild" data that have inexact ground truth, and better than DL methods on more controlled data with exact ground truth. Since our formulation does not require any learning, it enjoys a versatility that allows it to operate with multiple frames of arbitrary sizes. This study's results encourage further research on 3DMM fitting with inequality-constrained optimization methods, which have been unexplored compared to unconstrained methods.

Blocking Rice Shoot Gravitropism by Altering One Amino Acid in LAZY1.

Project description:Tiller angle is an important trait that determines plant architecture and yield in cereal crops. Tiller angle is partially controlled during gravistimulation by the dynamic re-allocation of LAZY1 (LA1) protein between the nucleus and plasma membrane, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we identified and characterized a new allele of LA1 based on analysis of a rice (Oryza sativa L.) spreading-tiller mutant la1G74V, which harbors a non-synonymous mutation in the predicted transmembrane (TM) domain-encoding region of this gene. The mutation causes complete loss of shoot gravitropism, leading to prostrate growth of plants. Our results showed that LA1 localizes not only to the nucleus and plasma membrane but also to the endoplasmic reticulum. Removal of the TM domain in LA1 showed spreading-tiller phenotype of plants similar to la1G74V but did not affect the plasma membrane localization; thus, making it distinct from its ortholog ZmLA1 in Zea mays. Therefore, we propose that the TM domain is indispensable for the biological function of LA1, but this domain does not determine the localization of the protein to the plasma membrane. Our study provides new insights into the LA1-mediated regulation of shoot gravitropism.

A 3D texture dataset of 27 km road.

Project description:This dataset represents the 3D road surface texture of a route of 27 km long in a resolution of 0.1 m approximatively in both longitudinal and transversal directions. The first purpose of the dataset is to test numerical programs that need road surface topographies as input. The dataset is composed of 2658 text files and each representing a section of that route. The data was collected with the Harris2, a vehicle operated by TRL (Transport Research Laboratory from the UK), equipped with a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and a PPS (Road-Profile System). The files are presented in a regular grid achieved by merging the LIDAR and the PPS data into 3D coordinates.

Creation and Validation of the Japanese Cute Infant Face (JCIF) Dataset.

Project description:Research interest in cuteness perception and its effects on subsequent behavior and physiological responses has recently been increasing. The purpose of the present study was to produce a dataset of Japanese infant faces that are free of portrait rights and can be used for cuteness research. A total of 80 original facial images of 6-month-old infants were collected from their parents. The cuteness level of each picture was rated on a 7-point scale by 200 Japanese people (100 men and 100 women in their 20s-60s). Prototypical high- and low-cuteness faces were created by averaging the top 10 and bottom 10 faces according to the mean cuteness ratings. Then, 50 composite faces were made by mixing two faces randomly chosen from the 60 unused middle-cuteness faces. The normative cuteness ratings of these composite faces were obtained from 229 Japanese men and women in their 20s-60s. The shape of each composite face was transformed to be cuter (+50%) or less cute (-50%) along a continuum between the high- and low-cuteness prototypical faces. A two-alternative forced-choice task (N = 587) confirmed that cuteness discrimination was better than the chance level for all 50 face pairs. Moreover, the results showed that young men had poorer sensitivity to cuteness differences in infant faces than older men and women of any age. This Japanese Cute Infant Face (JCIF, "jay-sif") dataset, including composite face images and normative rating scores, is publicly available online.
