Respiratory chemoreceptors regulate breathing in response to changes in tissue CO<sub>2</sub>/H<sup>+</sup>. Blood flow is a fundamental determinant of tissue CO<sub>2</sub>/H<sup>+</sup>, yet little is known regarding how regulation of vascular tone in chemoreceptor regions contributes to respiratory behavior.
