Ignatzschineria indica bacteremia in a patient with a maggot-infested heel ulcer: a case report and literature review.

ABSTRACT: An elderly patient was admitted with sepsis to a community hospital. The individual was found to have a foot wound infested with maggots, and clinical evidence of cellulitis. A blood culture was positive on day 2 with Ignatzschineria indica . The patient was treated successfully with a combination of antibiotics and manual removal of the maggots. Poor living conditions were central to his presentation.
