ABSTRACT: The use of bacteriophages as antimicrobial agents represents a promising alternative for the control of pathogenic bacteria. Here, we present the complete genome sequences of two novel Salmonella enterica lytic bacteriophages, NBSal006 and NBSal007, candidates for Salmonella biocontrol.

Project description:We report the genome sequences of 10 Pseudomonas aeruginosa phages studied for their potential for formulation of a therapeutic cocktail; they represent the families Myoviridae, Podoviridae, and Siphoviridae Genome sizes ranged from 43,299 to 88,728 nucleotides, with G+C contents of 52.1% to 62.2%. The genomes contained 68 to 168 coding sequences.

Complete genome sequences of bacteriophages P12002L and P12002S, two lytic phages that infect a marine Polaribacter strain.

Project description:The bacterial genus Polaribacter is distributed widely in marine environments; however, there have been no reports of phages infecting Polaribacter strains. Here, we describe the isolation and genome sequencing of two lytic siphophages, P12002L and P12002S, that infect Polaribacter sp. strain IMCC12002. The two phages and host strain were isolated from coastal seawater of Korea. Complete genome sequences of the two phages were similar to each other and about 50 kb in length, with a G?+?C content of 28.9 %. The two genomes showed typical characteristics of phage genomes: a modular structure and high proportion of hypothetical proteins. The genome sequences have been deposited in GenBank under accession numbers KR136259 (P12002L) and KR136260 (P12002S).

Lytic activity was demonstrated against multiple Salmonella enterica serovars, including Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium strains. This bacteriophage has a 47,657-bp double-stranded DNA genome encoding 87 putative coding sequences.

Project description:We report the circularized complete genome sequences, containing a circular chromosome and two circular plasmids, of strains SalSpp05 (4.9 Mbp) and SalSpp10 (4.8 Mbp), which were isolated from chicken carcass rinse water samples; the sequences were obtained by combining Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read data and Illumina short-read data. Whole-genome alignments indicated that both strains belong to Salmonella enterica.
