The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Euphorbia lathyris L. (Euphorbiaceae).

ABSTRACT: Euphorbia lathyris L. is a well-known bioenergy plant cultivated in many parts of the world. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of E. lathyris to investigate its phylogenetic relationship in the family Euphorbiaceae. The cp genome was 163,738 bp in length, consisting of a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb: 26,837 bp) separated by a large single-copy region (LSC: 91,783 bp) and a small single-copy region (SSC: 18,281 bp). The GC content of whole cp genome is 35.6%. Annotation showed the presence of 113 unique genes with 79 protein-coding genes, four tRNA genes, and 30 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that E. lathyris was in the basal position of subgen. Esula, closely related to sect. Esula and sect. Helioscopiae.

Project description:Euphorbia lathyris is a biennial herb plant in China. The seed is commonly used in well-known traditional Chinese medicine, and it has anti-tumor, p-glycoprotein and tyrosinase inhibitory activities. The length of circular chloroplast genome was 162,571 bp, containing a large single-copy region of 91,946 bp, a small single-copy region of 17,301 bp and two inverted repeat regions of 26,662 bp. The chloroplast genome contained 128 genes, including 85 protein-coding, 8 rRNA, and 35 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that E. lathyris, E. kansui and E. esulaare are closely related to each other.

Complete chloroplast genome of Euphorbia micractina Boiss (Euphorbiaceae: Euphorbia).

Project description:Euphorbia micractina Boiss is a plant with high medicinal value. Yet, its molecular biology is not fully understood. In this study, we sequenced the whole chloroplast genome (CP) sequence of E. micractina to study its phylogenetic relationship in Euphorbiaceae. The total length of the chloroplast genome of E. micractina is 162,056 bp, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 89,936bp bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,376 bp, and a pair of identical inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 11,367 bp. The genome has 128 genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 36 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The overall GC content of the plastome is 35.7%. The phylogenetic analysis of E. micractina with 30 related species suggested a closest taxonomical relationship with Euphorbia pekinensis in the Euphorbiaceae family.

Phylogenetic analysis result strongly indicated that E. ebracteolata is closely related to E. helioscopia.

Project description:Euphorbia kansui T.N. Liou ex S.B. Ho (Euphorbiaceae) is a perennial herb plant endemic to China. This species has important economic and medicinal values. In this study, we first characterized the complete nucleotide sequence of chloroplast (cp) genome of E. kansui using the Illumina Hiseq platform. The cp genome was 161,061?bp in length, comprising of a large single copy (LSC) region of 91,288?bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 17,086?bp, and two inverted repeat regions of 26,343?bp each. The cp genome contains 130 genes, including 86 protein-coding genes, 8 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and 36 transfer RNAs (tRNAs). The phylogenetic analysis indicated that E. kansui was placed as a sister to the congeneric Euphorbia esula.

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Euphorbia helioscopia Linn. (Euphorbiaceae), a traditional Chinese medicine.

Project description:Euphorbia helioscopia Linn. known as a traditional Chinese medicine of Euphorbiaceae, which contains terpenes, steroids, flavonoids, acetophenones, tannins, phenylpropanoids, cerebrosides and so on. Euphorbia helioscopia L. was used to treat malignant tumors and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as cough, phlegm-turbidity, asthma, and chronic bronchitis. The complete chloroplast genome was assembled by Illumina paired-end reads data. The length of circular cp genome distribution in 160,041 bp, containing a large single-copy region (LSC) of 88,832 bp, a small single-copy region (SSC) of 17,145 bp and a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 27,032 bp. In addition, 11 genes possess a single intron, while the other two genes (ycf3, clpP) have a couple of introns. The GC content of entire Euphorbia helioscopia L. cp genome, LSC, SSC and IR regions are 35.9, 33.1, 30.3, and 42.3%, respectively. From the NJ phylogenetic tree analysis showed that Euphorbia helioscopia L. and Euphorbia esula are closely related to each other within the family Euphorbiaceae.

Complete plastome sequence of Euphorbia milii Des Moul. (Euphorbiaceae).

Project description:Euphorbia milii (Euphorbiaceae) grows as a scrambling shrub with many branches. Here, we report and characterize the complete plastome of E. milii in an effort to provide genomic resources useful for promoting its systematic research. The plastome of E. milii is found to possess a total length of 160,806 bp with the typical quadripartite structure of angiosperms, contains two Inverted Repeats (IRs) of 26,695 bp, a Large Single-Copy (LSC) region of 90,211 bp and a Small Single-Copy (SSC) region of 17,205 bp. The plastome contains 114 genes, consisting of 80 unique protein-coding genes, 30 unique tRNA genes and four unique rRNA genes. The overall A/T content in the plastome of E. milii is of 64.10%. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that E. milii is close to E. tirucalli within Euphorbiaceae in this study. The complete plastome sequence of E. milii will provide a useful resource for the conservation genetics of this species as well as for the phylogenetic studies of Euphorbiaceae.

Project description:Mallotus paniculatus (Lam.) Müll. Arg. 1865 (Euphorbiaceae) is a shrub or small tree with medicinal properties that is distributed across Southeast Asia. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of M. paniculatus to study phylogenetic relationships within the family Euphorbiaceae Juss. The complete chloroplast genome of M. paniculatus was 164,455 bp in length, with an overall GC content of 35.3%. It was found to consist of a long single copy region of 89,021 bp, a small single copy region of 18,524 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats of 28,455 bp. Results indicated that the chloroplast genome contains a total of 131 genes, including 78 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, eight rRNA genes, and eight pseudogenes. The phylogenetic tree showed that M. paniculatus is closely related to Mallotus japonicus and Mallotus peltatus.
