Phospholipidosis (PLD), the intracellular accumulation of phospholipids, is an adaptive response to toxic stimuli and serves as an important parameter in the biological assessment of compounds. Cationic amphiphilic drugs are the main inducers of PLD and may impair the function of alveolar macrophages.
