ABSTRACT: We report four draft genome sequences related to the genera Bacillus and Escherichia, recovered from surfaces associated with human interaction, and Sediminibacterium, recovered from an aquatic environment. This study was part of an undergraduate microbial bioinformatics course at the State University of New York at Geneseo.

Project description:Shigella is a genus of Gram-negative enteric pathogenic bacteria which has four species, Shigella dysenteriae, S. flexneri, S. boydii, and S. sonnei. Shigella species are clinically important bacteria because they cause shigellosis or dysentery. Here we report the genome sequences of 72 Shigella isolates from these four species.

Draft genome sequences for the obligate bacterial predators Bacteriovorax spp. of four phylogenetic clusters.

Project description:Bacteriovorax is the halophilic genus of the obligate bacterial predators, Bdellovibrio and like organisms. The predators are known for their unique biphasic life style in which they search for and attack their prey in the free living phase; penetrate, grow, multiply and lyse the prey in the intraperiplasmic phase. Bacteriovorax isolates representing four phylogenetic clusters were selected for genomic sequencing. Only one type strain genome has been published so far from the genus Bacteriovorax. We report the genomes from non-type strains isolated from aquatic environments. Here we describe and compare the genomic features of the four strains, together with the classification and annotation.

Project description:Here, we report the draft genome sequences of four aerobic gaseous alkane-oxidizing bacteria isolated from soil by enrichment culture using isobutane (2-methylpropane) as the sole carbon and energy source. The sequences all reveal microorganisms with multiple alkane-oxidizing monooxygenases, including soluble di-iron monooxygenases (SDIMOs), copper-containing monooxygenases (CuMMOs), and alkane hydroxylases (AHs).

Heidelberg strain N13-01290 plasmid pN13-01290_23 previously isolated in Canada.
