Dataset from the zero-energy log house project.

ABSTRACT: In this data article, we present a supplementary dataset from a zero-energy log house project in southern Finland, presented in detail in [1]. This article consists of comprehensive energy-related data collected in practice from several sources from the house during the period of 2017-2019. The data include solar PV production data of two separate systems, in south and east-west directions. The solar PV data are presented on a different time scale to demonstrate the operation of two installations in different seasonal conditions. Simulated results are also included. The electrical energy consumption is distributed between the consumer, ventilation, the ground source heat pump for space heating and the domestic hot water energy at the monthly level. The realized electrical energy prices, self-sufficiency rates, and costs are also presented at the monthly level. The heat production of the ground source heat pump is estimated according to the service hour data and the performance data given by the manufacturer. The data can be applied in new and building-under-renovation projects.

Project description:The behaviors of building occupants have continued to perplex scholars for years in our attempts to develop models for energy efficient housing. Building simulations, project delivery approaches, policies, and more have fell short of their optimistic goals due to the complexity of human behavior. As a part of a multiphase longitudinal affordable housing study, this dataset represents energy and occupant behavior attributes for 6 affordable housing units over nine months in Virginia, USA which are not performing to the net-zero energy standard they were designed for. This dataset provides researchers the ability to analyze the following variables: energy performance, occupant behaviors, energy literacy, and ecological perceptions. Energy data is provided at a 1?Hz sampling rate for four circuits: main, hot water heater, dryer, and HVAC. Building specifications, occupancy, weather data, and neighboring building energy use data are provided to add depth to the dataset. This dataset can be used to update building energy use models, predictive maintenance, policy frameworks, construction risk models, economic models, and more.

Data extraction from vintage well sonic log graphs in the ViDEPI project (offshore the Apulia, southern Italy): A multi-useful dataset.

Project description:Twelve files have been obtained after the extraction of data from raster PDF images of sonic log graphs. These files data regard exploration wells placed in the Adriatic Sea pertaining the Apulia (Branzino-1, Chiara-1, Cristina-1, Famoso-1, Giove-1, Giove-2, Grazia-1, Grifone-1, Medusa-1, Sabrina-1, Simona-1, and Sparviero-1bis), and the related raster sonic log graphs are free accessible at the ViDEPI Project (www.videpi.com) of the Ministry for the Economic Development of the Italian Government. Two columns A and B of data, i.e., interval transit time Δt [µs/ft] and depth [m], respectively, characterise each file. Hence, 18,396 pairs of Δt-depth values have been obtained. The picking of the data occurred by the use of WebPlotDigitizer© free software. These data are relevant for the interpretation of reflection seismic lines throughout the Adriatic Sea, mainly in the offshore the Apulia. Moreover, the interpretation of those reflection seismic lines located in the adjacent offshore zones, such as the Ionian Sea, can benefit from these data; the values can be important for seismological goals around the Apulia, as well. From these data, Δt-depth diagrams can be originated by the use of software capable of building 2D graphs from values in CSV files (e.g. Matlab©).

A zero inflated log-normal model for inference of sparse microbial association networks.

Project description:The advent of high-throughput metagenomic sequencing has prompted the development of efficient taxonomic profiling methods allowing to measure the presence, abundance and phylogeny of organisms in a wide range of environmental samples. Multivariate sequence-derived abundance data further has the potential to enable inference of ecological associations between microbial populations, but several technical issues need to be accounted for, like the compositional nature of the data, its extreme sparsity and overdispersion, as well as the frequent need to operate in under-determined regimes. The ecological network reconstruction problem is frequently cast into the paradigm of Gaussian Graphical Models (GGMs) for which efficient structure inference algorithms are available, like the graphical lasso and neighborhood selection. Unfortunately, GGMs or variants thereof can not properly account for the extremely sparse patterns occurring in real-world metagenomic taxonomic profiles. In particular, structural zeros (as opposed to sampling zeros) corresponding to true absences of biological signals fail to be properly handled by most statistical methods. We present here a zero-inflated log-normal graphical model (available at https://github.com/vincentprost/Zi-LN) specifically aimed at handling such "biological" zeros, and demonstrate significant performance gains over state-of-the-art statistical methods for the inference of microbial association networks, with most notable gains obtained when analyzing taxonomic profiles displaying sparsity levels on par with real-world metagenomic datasets.

CancerMap project prostate cancer microarray dataset

Project description:Microarray expression profiling has currently failed to provide a consistent classification for human prostate cancer. Such classifications are important because they provide a framework for the identification of new biomarkers of clinical behavior and for the development of targeted therapies. We hypothesize that previous studies have been unsuccessful because of their failure to take into account the well documented occurrence of prostate cancer multifocality and genetic heterogeneity. We have invented a novel method for collecting whole RNALater preserved ‘research slices’ from prostatectomy specimens that, for the first time, allows the mapping of multifocality and of genetic heterogeneity in prostate cancer to be integrated with the selection of samples for expression microarray analysis. For each specimen we will construct a map of the regions of cancer and of their ERG gene rearrangement status from whole mount formalin fixed sections immediately juxtaposed to the ‘research slice’. Only foci of cancers containing a homogeneous pattern of ERG gene alteration will be selected for study. A pilot study has already demonstrated the feasibility of this approach, and provides initial evidence that cancers may be stratified into at least two prognostically distinct categories. Novel biomarkers defining distinct prostate cancer categories will be verified and validated in future studies linked to clinical trials.

Realisation of topological zero-energy mode in bilayer graphene in zero magnetic field.

Project description:Bilayer graphene (BLG) gapped by a vertical electric field represents a valley-symmetry-protected topological insulating state. Emergence of a new topological zero-energy mode has been proposed in BLG at a boundary between regions of inverted band gaps induced by two oppositely polarized vertical electric fields. However, its realisation has been challenged by the enormous difficulty in arranging two pairs of accurately aligned split gates on the top and bottom surfaces of clean BLG. Here we report realisation of the topological zero-energy mode in ballistic BLG, with zero-bias differential conductance close to the ideal value of 4?e 2/h (e is the electron charge and h is Planck's constant) along a boundary channel between a pair of gate-defined inverted band gaps. This constitutes the bona fide electrical-gate-tuned generation of a valley-symmetry-protected topological boundary conducting channel in BLG in zero magnetic field, which is essential to valleytronics applications of BLG.

High resolution dataset from a net-zero home that demonstrates zero-carbon living and transportation capacity.

Project description:This dataset includes high resolution, detailed end use data from a net-zero occupied home that demonstrates zero-carbon living and transportation capacity. The house is located in Davis, California, U.S., and the dataset includes full year data from 2020 with 1 minute time resolution. The data has been monitored with more than 230 sensors installed in the house, and there are total 332 channels available. The data includes detailed end use electricity data (e.g., HVAC system, lighting, plug load including major appliances), building's interior thermal conditions (e.g., indoor air temperatures in multiple rooms and relative humidity), HVAC system operation data (e.g., soil temperatures around ground bores and supply water temperatures), on-site power generation system data (e.g., PV power supply and PV surface temperatures) and etc. The original dataset from the house has been curated, and the data has been carefully reviewed for quality check. The data quality check revealed there are 156 minutes of data were missing in the month of April, and around 1,404 minutes of data was missing in August. The data gap was filled with linear interpolation in case the gap is less than continuous 6 hours. Otherwise, the data is filled with -9999. The data curation has been processed using the Tsdat framework (https://github.com/tsdat/tsdat). In addition, a semantic description for the dataset was generated by leveraging the Brick (https://brickschema.org/). The final curated and processed data as well as raw data are currently available through https://bbd.labworks.org/ds/bbd/hshus.

Pillar 3-Pre-processed web server log file dataset of the banking institution.

Project description:The dataset presented in this article represents the pre-processed web server log file of the commercial bank. The source of data is the web server of the bank and keeps access of web users starting the year 2009 till 2012. It contains accesses to the bank website during and after the financial crisis. Unnecessary data saved by the web server was removed to keep the focus only on the textual content of the website. Many variables were added to the original log file to make the analysis workable. To keep the privacy of website users, sensitive information in the log file were anonymized. The dataset offers a way to understand the behavior of stakeholders during and after the crisis and how they comply with the Basel regulations. The behavior of users can be modeled using the multinomial logit model, which is in detail described in the research article [1] related to this data article.

The datasets mainly focus on two major fields, first one is First Case which consists of information of Date of First Case(s), Number of confirm Case(s) at First Day, Age of the patient(s) of First Case, Last Visited Country and the other one First Death information consist of Date of First Death and Age of the Patient who died first for every Country mentioning corresponding Continent.This dataset also can perform a bunch of predictions using Machine Learning applications, like -how fast the virus is spreading, affect rate, death rate, death rate and able to represent comparison between other pandemics. Using this dataset, any similar pandemic spreadness could be predicted earlier and necessary precaution measures could be taken.

Data on energy consumption and Nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs) in Europe.

Project description:This data article refers to the paper "What is a Nearly zero energy building? Overview, implementation and comparison of definitions" (D?Agostino and Mazzarella, 2019). Data linked with this article allow an overview of the European status in relation to energy consumption and energy savings in buildings. Further data are available in relation to Nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs). Data relate to primary and final energy consumption, detailing electricity, gas, oil, coal, heat, and wood consumption from 1994 to 2014 in different countries. Data also relate to the stock of constructions of total, single-family, and multi-family dwellings in Europe. Energy consumption per different energy carriers is also given for the residential sector in European and non-European countries. Energy consumption and savings trends can be visualized. In relation to NZEBs, selected retrofit case studies in Europe are presented. Data include energy consumption, saving percentages, costs, payback period, implemented efficiency measures and renewables. Further data is available about building geometry, costs, envelope, lighting, appliances and systems.

Photonic microstructures for energy-generating clear glass and net-zero energy buildings.

Project description:Transparent energy-harvesting windows are emerging as practical building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), capable of generating electricity while simultaneously reducing heating and cooling demands. By incorporating spectrally-selective diffraction gratings as light deflecting structures of high visible transparency into lamination interlayers and using improved spectrally-selective thin-film coatings, most of the visible solar radiation can be transmitted through the glass windows with minimum attenuation. At the same time, the ultraviolet (UV) and a part of incident solar infrared (IR) radiation energy are converted and/or deflected geometrically towards the panel edge for collection by CuInSe2 solar cells. Experimental results show power conversion efficiencies in excess of 3.04% in 10 cm × 10 cm vertically-placed clear glass panels facing direct sunlight, and up to 2.08% in 50 cm × 50 cm installation-ready framed window systems. These results confirm the emergence of a new class of solar window system ready for industrial application.
