Solvent-assisted ligand incorporation is an excellent method for the post-synthetic functionalization of Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as carboxylate-derivative functionalities readily coordinate to the Zr<sub>6</sub> nodes by displacing node-based aqua and terminal hydroxo ligands.
