Apple proliferation is an economically important disease and a threat for commercial apple cultivation. The causative pathogen, the bacterium '<i>Candidatus</i> Phytoplasma mali', is mainly transmitted by <i>Cacopsylla picta</i>, a phloem-feeding insect that develops on the apple tree (<i>Malus</i> spp.).
