The complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius duospilus (Gobiidae: Gobionellinae).

ABSTRACT: Rhinogobius duospilus is a small freshwater fish with brilliant color in southern China, belonging to the subfamily Gobionellinae. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of 16,496 bp from R. duospilus was reported for the first time. It composed of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding genes. Phylogenetic tree showed that R. duospilus formed a separate lineage. The findings here would be helpful to further researches of R. duospilus.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius wuyanlingensis (Gobiiformes: Gobiidae: Gobionellinae).

Project description:Rhinogobius wuyanlingensis is endemic to the upper reaches of Feiyunjiang river basin. In this article, the complete mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) for this freshwater goby was first determined. Sequence analysis showed the genome consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and two main non-coding regions (the control region and the origin of the light strand replication). This circular molecule was 16,491 bp in length with a slight AT bias of 53.5%. In the phylogenetic tree, R. wuyanlingensis was closer to Rhinogobius brunneus, Rhinogobius yonezawai, Rhinogobius flumineus, and Rhinogobius cliffordpopei. The mitochondrial genome of R. wuyanlingensis reported here would provide basal molecular data for evolution, taxonomy, and population genetics of Rhinogobius.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Gymnogobius Petschiliensis (Gobiiformes; Gobiidae; Gobionellinae) and its phylogenetic implications.

Project description:Of the goby fishes, many Gymnogobius species have been poor recognized mainly because of the absence of enough molecular information and clear phylogenetic framework. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Gymnogobius petschiliensis was determined and described. The mitogenome is 16,422?bp in length and consists of 22 tRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs, one control region and a light strand replication origin (OL). The arrangement of this mitogenome is identical to that of the typical teleost. The overall base composition is 27.5%, 29.5%, 26.1%, and 16.9%, for A, T, C, and G, respectively, with a slight bias on A?+?T content (57.0%). The 13 protein-coding genes use the initiation codon ATG except COI, which uses GTG. Most of them use TAA or TAG as the stop codon, while COII, COIII, and Cyt b use an incomplete T or TA and ND4 uses an unusual AGA. The maximum-likelihood phylogeny tree of 19 Gobionellinae species demonstrated that G. petschiliensis had a very closely relationship with the same genus G. urotaenia. This study is expected to contributing to the phylogenetic evolution of G. petschiliensis and further phylogenetic relationship of Gobionellinae and Gobiiformes.

The next-generation sequencing reveals the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius formosanus (Perciformes: Gobiidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the Rhinogobius formosanus is presented in this study. In brief, it is 16,500 bp long and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and a control region. The gene order and composition were similar to those of most other vertebrates. The nucleotide compositions of the heavy strand are 16.6% of G, 26.0% of T, 27.7% of A, and 29.8% of C. With the exception of the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 6 (ND6) and eight tRNA genes, all other mitochondrial genes are encoded on the heavy strand. The phylogenetic analysis by neighbour-joining (NJ) method showed that the R. formosanus has the closer relationship to Rhinogobius leavelli in the phylogenetic relationship.

Project description:The genus Rhinogobius was widely distributed in East Asia. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Rhinogobius sp., possible a new species of freshwater goby from Anhui province of China, was sequenced for the first time. Sequence analysis showed that it is 16,511 bp in length with A + T content of 52.3%, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and a control region (CR). Phylogenetic analyses placed Rhinogobius sp. in a well-supported monophyletic cluster with other Rhinogobius fish and the phylogenetic position of Rhinogobius sp. was closer to Rhinogobius cliffordpopei.

The complete mitochondrial genome characterization of Tridentiger obscurus (Gobiiformes: Gobiidae) and phylogenetic analyses of Gobionellinae.

Project description:The dusky tripletooth goby, Tridentiger obscurus, is a good model organism for the small in size and reaching maturity within a single year. Previous studies mainly focused on the annual reproductive cycle, social behavior and life history, but little information is available of the mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic evolution of this gobioid fish. In this article, we described the complete mitogenome of T. obscurus and reconstructed the phylogenetic relationship of the relative species of Gobionellinae. The genome is 16,501?bp in length including 13 protein-coding, two ribosomal RNA, 22 transfer RNA genes, as well as a putative control region and an L-strand replication origin. The overall base composition is 28.1%, 27.0%, 28.0% and 16.9% for A, T, C and G, respectively. This result is expected for better understanding the systematic evolution of the genus Tridentiger and further phylogenetic study of Gobiiformes.

Project description:In this study, we sequenced the full mitochondrial genome of Bathygobius cocosensis, an abundant intertidal fish species, which may provide insights into the evolutionary genetics of chaotic genetic patchiness and range expansion in marine systems. The mitochondrial genome is 16,692?bp, and contains 13 protein-coding genes along with 22 tRNA and 2 rRNA genes and a D-loop region, arranged similarly to other Gobiidae species. A Bayesian phylogeny of Gobiidae species indicates close relationships to the genus Glossogobius. The B. cocosensis mitochondrial genome is now available through GenBank (Accession?=?MG704838).

The complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthogobius stigmothonus (Perciformes, Gobiidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Acanthogobius stigmothonus is first sequenced in this study. This genome was 16,666 bp in size and contained 37 classic genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and two ribosomal RNA genes. The gene organization and nucleotide composition were the same with those found in most other Gobiidae fishes. Among 37 genes, 28 were encoded by the heavy strand, while nine were encoded by the light strand. The total nucleotide composition of this genome was 27.4% for adenine (A), 17.6% for guanine (G), 28.2% for cytosine (C), and 26.8% for thymine (T), with a high A + T content of 54.2%. This study will provide a better understanding of population genetic diversity of A. stigmothonus and offer useful information for future studies concerning Gobiidae mitogenome evolution.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Gymnogobius heptacanthus (Perciformes, gobiidae).

Project description:Gymnogobius heptacanthus is a small intertidal species belonging to the family Gobiidae. Herein, we report the first sequencing and assembly of the complete mitochondrial genome of G. heptacanthus. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,529 bp long and has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 12 species showed that G. heptacanthus is clustered with G. urotaenia and G. petschiliensis and rooted with other Gobiidae species. This mitochondrial genome provides potentially important resources for addressing taxonomic issues and studying molecular evolution.

Here, the complete mitochondrial genome of Acentrogobius caninus was completely sequenced by high throughput sequencing method. The complete mitochondrial genome was 16,614 bp in length, consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, 1 large non-coding control region, and 1 light-strand replication origin. Overall base composition values for the mitochondrial genome were 28.24, 29.20, 16.77, and 25.79% for A, C, G, and T, respectively. The gene arrangement is identical to those in typical fishes. Phylogenetic tree based on 13 protein-coding genes shows that three species of genus Acentrogobiu did not cluster into one clade.

The circle genome was 16,566 bp long and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 1 control region. The mitochondrial gene arrangement of S. yasha is similar to those of most other gobies. The phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining method showed that the kinship between Stonogobiops and Acentrogobius is closer than those between Stonogobiops and other selected genera. This is the first record of the complete mitogenome for the genus Stonogobiops.
